I've done it before, with the files labeled Videos, Pictures, Music, etc in the C Drive on my Acer 5920 (vista) actually listing the contents of files in my D drive, without having to create a shortcut. It's quite hard to explain, but I was wondering if anyone new how to put files from the D drive labelled Music, Videos, Pictures, in the user directory (on the C drive) without having to physically copy the contents of the files to the C drive. Many thanks

I just recently did what you need. For each subdirectory in the user directory that I wanted to have on D:, I right-clicked and edited Properties to change the Location, replacing C: with D:.
I think there are some it is best not to move, notably AppData.

Thanks Jeff, just what I was looking for

You're welcome--good luck. I think the benefit of putting user files on D is that
you can do a full system recover, which trashes everything on C but leaves D alone. Also, you can more easily make backup copies of just D. Now, if only I could get in the habit of making regular backups...
