    Hi, guys..
A lot of Acer laptops use Atheros Wlan+Bluetooth solution chips, especially Ultra-thin models including S3 and S5.
I am using a S5-391 running windows 8.1. The system was flawless when running the pre-installed windows 7 home premium, as well as windows 8 pro. But soon as I updated to Windows 8.1 (it is a clean install using windows 8.1 pro iso, not upgrade from windows store), and got all drivers from official site installed, bluetooth functionality gets an error.
I tried to connect different bluetooth mice to the system (all the mice work perfectly with other laptops). While the connection succeed, the connection often drops out. Besides, the connection restores as soon as I enter the "Bluetooth" page of "Change PC Settings" Metro interface. After browsing the Acer support community, I found a lot of users complain about their acer systems with atheros wlan+bluetooth running windows 8.1 for bluetooth issue. But the support staff on acer's forum merely ask you to install the driver...they seem to know nothing more than this. So I come to NoteBookReview and see if there is anyone can help, or suggest possible solutions.
I read about turning off "allow windows to turn off"...option in power management, but the official driver has no "power management" tab for bluetooth devices in the device manager.

Atheros did have a problem with Win 8 drivers. What driver version are you using?

You can also check out this website- they are very reliable as far as drivers go, although you seem to have a slightly newer Bluetooth suite than they have at the moment.

thank you for your help. I think I might found a potential solution: The official driver for Aspire S5-391 is a bundled one, wifi+bluetooth together. Using this driver, the "Bluetooth USB Adapter" does not have the "Power Management" tab. But if you install this driver (mainly to get the wireless network working) and then delete the bluetooth adapter completely in the device manager then "search for driver online", the system will install a rather older but compatible version of the bluetooth adapter driver, signed by atheros but downloaded by win8.1 automatically from microsoft. This new driver enables the "power management" tab and there by disabling "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" sort of thing, the bluetooth mouse stops dropping off.....
Don't know if this resolves the issue perfectly...still keeping an eye on the system.
