    Hey all,
I have this strange audio issue, that started when I upgraded to Windows 7.
When my speaker configuration is set to Built-in Speakers, I will intermitently get a hard buzzing distorted noise coming from my right speaker. It mostly occurs when I'm doing something, (browseing the net, navigating through explorer etc). Its stops on its own eventually, but sometimes can last a long time.

Heres what I know so far.
-The strange thing is that there is no distortion with headphones, its only the built in speaker.

-The problem is intermitent and does not occur in 5.1 mode, so its not a physical problem with the speaker, it must be software/driver related.

-I have the latest RealTek Drivers from Acer.

-The problem does not occur when my speaker configuration is set to 5.1 output.

    Any ideas?

I had that too back in November, I used the Audio_Realtek_6.0.1.5888_W7x64W7x86_A driver they had and it works fine now. I am using 64-bit Ultimate so mine might not help.

Have the same issue since upgrading to W7 X64, never ran Vista on it for any real length of time so don't know if it would have been the same.

R2.39 and 2.40 realtek drivers seem to work well, its gone from being a constant problem to a very intermittant one, often after doing CPU intensive stuff then to watching youtube vids or something like that - alot of people seem to have the issue with W7 and realtek so hopefully it'll get sorted... one day...

Same as EchoShade for me, problem appeared on my 6920g around November. I heard from a friend that the problem seems to be at least indirectly linked to Acer's eAudio management system, it may be worth uninstalling that, restarting your computer and rolling back the drivers to R2.39 or your equivilant.

No other substantial suggestions as of yet though im afraid!

This is interesting because that driver you have is causing the problem for me.
For Win 7 Home Premium, those are the latest drivers.
I have just installed the latest Vista x64 drivers Audio_Realtek_6.0.1.5704_Vistax64_A and so far so good, but I need to give them more time.

I was wondering about that myself, Do we really need the Acer Empowering Technology stuff installed at all? Windows 7 seem to be capable of doing everything on its own. As far as Audio, and Power Management are concerned. I think I will uninstall it, but I realize I can't re download it if I need it again.

I removed all the Acer empowering stuff last night, can't say that it really provides any functionality that Isn't already found in windows or any other software you might already have.

The 'e' button no has a new purpose...

Click on the Speaker Icon in your task bar and then on the speaker icon at the top of the pop up it brings up.

Then click on the 'advanced tab' and look in the 'default format' section. Use the drop down box to try different frequencys, If I choose 44,100hz in either 16 or 32bit It sounds rough, anything else sounds fine.

If I leave that setting on 44,100hz and play a youtube vid it sounds rough, choose anything else (and remember to hit apply) it sounds fine. Occasionally there may be a hiccup but for the most part seems to work for me.

That said removing the acer empowering and its affiated apps does not make my 44,100hz any better then it was - but its a little less bloatware to worry about.

    Hi there!

I am new here and this is my first post and I am desparately hoping that some of you great minds can help me out.
Well here is my problem (...my laptop's actually but since I own it it became my problem) I own HP Compaq CQ40-601TU, 32bit windows 7.
    1. Its about just 3-4 months old and since a couple of weeks back when I play any songs there is a wave in the sound output..the volume increases and decreases in a continuous flow with about 2 seconds in between.
    2. Second problem: There is a continuous blink of light right across the bottom of the screen. Initially it was the size of a pencil line but now it has grown thicker and reddish in color.

I had called up HP and the tech support rep sent me audio driver bt that didnt helped.

I would really appreciate if you could suggest me how to fix this. (Its a gift from my girl friend and I dont want to throw it away just like that..u know what i mean..)

    I had an similar issue.

Open up the playback devices -> speakers -> levels -> internal subwoofer to 12 -> subwoofer to 0 -> everything else for 5.1 left right, center, back right/left at 100.

The Windows 7 driver for the Gemstone series sucks.

Go to Acer's website, and download the one from Vista instead! Then run it as admin, and in compatibily settings for Windows Vista service pack two :)

Hope this will solve your problem. :)

    Kind Regards Peter

I have downloaded the driver from acer, but I seem to get a folder with something like 50 files. How do I know which of the 20 exes is the right one?
