Urgh...
I've this problem for quite a while. Ok, let me explain this to you as clearly as possible.
I have an Acer laptop. At first, everything worked fine, but I've had some trouble lately with my audio jack.
Right in front of my computers are three ''holes''.
One of them is for the headphones, one of them is for the microphone and I have no idea what the last hole is for.

My problem is with the headphone slot.
It stops working randomly.
Here's what I mean
One day I'll turn on my computer and the slot will work perfectly fine. I'll plug my speakers or some headphones and listen to music. But the thing is I have to leave my computer on at all cost because I never know what's going to happen if I reboot.
Most of the time, the jack just doesn't work.
If I don't plug anything, the laptop internal speakers work just fine. But if I plug something into the headphone slot: nothing! Nothing is coming out of the speakers or the headphones.
Here's what happens when the speakers aren't plugged:

Even though the headphone slot is ''highlighted'' it makes no difference, still no sound coming from the speakers.
Now, as I said, this happens randomly, but most of the time it doesn't work.
I downloaded the latest Direct X and I believe I have the latest drivers as well.
What gives?

What's your OS?
Try to reset your Audio settings
Realtek Downloads -
I'm sorry, I thought I said it in my message.
My OS is Windows XP
Do you think resetting my audio settings might make the jack work properly?
EDIT: Sorry, but what am I suppose to download again? -
Go Realtek site and make sure you have latest driver version -
I've downloaded the drivers as you instructed and installed them properly.
I do have another question though:
How do you reset the audio settings. -
I have the same issue on my Sager 5791 .. the headphone sound just died! And googling it has come up with NO SOLLUTION after 5 hours...
