So I'm used to using ePower Management to auto-dim my screen when I run on battery and go brighter when I plug in. I decided to upgrade and run Vista 64-bit and am trying to figure out how to do the dimming thing in Vista as Empowering Software doesn't exist for Vista 64. Thanks.

use the power management in vista, you can set the brightness if you are using battery and power. Once you plug out the ac power cable, the brightness will be dimmed according to what you have set, and vice versa

Why not use vista's built-in power management as that will allow you to set the brightness settings for battery as well as when plugged in. Since you are running vista you could also utilize windows mobility center(windows key + X) for quick changes when it comes to changing screen brightness.
Also you could try changing the LCD brightness the manual way by pressing the "FN" key + left arrow(lower brightness level) or right arrow(raise brightness level) as needed. -
I know I can use FN + arrow key. But I don't want to manually change it everytime. I can't seem to find the brightness thing in Vista's Power Management
I recall seeing it before on my friend's HP laptop.
I'm using a Acer Aspire 5630. Is there anyway to enable the brightness thing in Vista?
Similarly, I don't know how to change brightness in Windows Mobility Center. Might it be my video drivers? -
To use vista built in power management just go into control panel and then power options. From there choose the power plan you want to use then select "change plan settings" then "advanced power settings", then scroll down to the display option and set the level you want for when running on battery and then when plugged in, apply any other settings you want then apply it and exit.
As for windows mobility center just use the sliders under the various options to control them. So under the display brightness just move the slider and it will change the brightness level. You could argue that using the FN + arrow keys would be faster than the mobility center but mobility center gives you more options, anyway both these processes are still manual. -

Well I have never seen what you are explaining before, I don't know what to tell you to try now...
