    Hi.

Two weeks ago I did some software updates on my Acer Aspire 5739G and among them a BIOS update. Unfortunately it failed halfway through and I got a bluescreen. When I then tried turning it back on, it turned itself off after about 3 seconds and the cycle continued. The laptop turns on, but nothing comes up on the screen and the laptop shuts off and then automatically starts again.

I have heard about pressing FN+Esc when turning the laptop on and having some files on a memory stick, but it hasn't worked yet. I have tried some different combinations of files, but with no success. However I can see that it reacts to pressing those keys because then the power-LED starts blinking.

Do you know which files I need or if it may help using an external floppy?

    Thanks in advance!

not up on that model, but does it have the INSYDE bios or is it a Phoenix?
if it's an INSYDE, you need to find a working PC and format a USB thumb drive in FAT or FAT16.
then go to the acer site and download the DOS version of the bios updater if available, if not just get the most current version and copy the VERSION.FD to your formatted thumb drive. then just follow the 5315 bios recovery instructions.

ALL OF THIS ASSUMES YOUR MODEL IS BASED ON THE INSYDE BIOS. but if you've already had a bios failure what can it hurt.

once again all the thumb drive, disk, or whatever recovery medium you use needs is that one file that ends with the FD extension. it's the entire bios image and the firmware of the motherboard does the actual work if all parts are OK, all steps are performed, and the file is present and not corrupted.

    hope it helps,
