Sorry, new here. Don't know if this is the correct way to post, or place...but quite desperate.

Last night I tried to update the BIOS on ACER Aspire 5810tz-4657 and it failed. The computer powers up with a few lights (no monitor activity or cd activity...but USB's flash once indicating a 'check' maybe?) and either powers off immediately and powers back up...or just sits powered on with power light and wireless light remaining on. The HD does some spinning as well.

If anyone knows anything about this, I'd be especially grateful...it's my mom's computer. Luckily she's out of town.

Okay, I've read one other post that had something to do with this, and of course there was no solution offered that worked. In fact, it was left unsolved as far as I can see.

So does anyone know how to do bootlock on the ACER Aspire 5810TZ series?

I have been in touch with ACER support, and not one of them understands in the slightest what I'm asking. I hope someone here does.

    Thanks.

Like does anyone know how to do this so-called bootblock? Does anyone know what kind of media to use and what should be on that media?

So I figured out where the jumpers are on the motherboard. I just don't know which is which. They aren't really labeled for users' ease of use. But I've figured out a few different modes (ie, how to get different indicators to react, and I've gotten a really high speed fan mode...but nothing else really) Anyone know this? Does anyone know what kind of media can be used for recovery and what the file names need to be. And all of that.

Oh, and it seems that the machine does check the CD drive when powered on...quite a bit actually (and any time the drive tray is pushed in)...I'm just utterly certain that I don't have either the correct file or correct file name...but I'm hoping someone has done this or tried this at some time. Anyone?
