I just got my laptop from the Acer Warranty Service with the motherboard changed (my LAN card died two weeks ago) and as I expected it came with the newest BIOS installed. I had v1.3806 when I bought it, and now it is v1.3811.
I start changing the BIOS settings to my liking and noticed that for MODEL NAME it stated "YYpire 5920G". Shouldn't it be "Aspire 5920G"?! Is this a spelling mistake in the BIOS?
I really can't remember whether it was like this with the old v1.3806 BIOS, but I'm pretty sure I would have noticed it before.
Is this the same for you with v1.3811?

-
nope mine sais Aspire 5920g with the 1.3811 bios installed.
-
Does anyone know what could be the reason for the "error" in my case?
-
That is not an error, you can easily update the BIOS's DMI pool data by entering the required info in the WinPhLash advanced settings when updating the BIOS.

Which BIOS utility is used by the notebook - Phoenix or Insyde ?
Do you know how to use WinPhLash ?? -
It's Phoenix, and as I said I reinstalled v1.3811 and went through all the advanced settings, so I guess I'm pretty familiar with it and I can hanlde another BIOS flash. Just tell me where to find this YYpire string. Thanks.
Don't you mean Swinflash? -
-
Yes, I used the utility you posted a screenshot of, and I'm pretty familiar with it. I just thought it was called Swinflash. My mistake. Thanks for helping me. What about the YYpire string and where to change it? As I said earlier I went through all the advanced settings and didn't noticed YYpire string.

Click on the advance settings (after selecting the BIOS update and the backup) --> Click on the DMI Tab
Then select the following:
Select the page you want to go to, by selecting the various options, try all out unless it shows the YY.. thing to you (Do not mess up anything else !!) --> Click on Edit:
Then enter the info --> YYpire > Aspire ?--> OK, and flash
At Your Own Risk !! I normally don't advise to flash the BIOS through Windows, but I don't know how to edit the DMI info in DOS....
Do not run any background tasks. And if it hangs, don't power off !! -
I did all that. As I said earlier, there is NO yy-thing anywhere in these pages and options, and I mean NOWHERE.
There is no even "Aspire 5920G" written anywhere. I don't know whether you own an Aspire to check Winphlash pages and options for yourself.
Also, when something is edited in the way you showed (by clicking EDIT, etc.) only the User specified field is changed or added. I tried to edit the Asset Tag, then reflashed v1.3811 and the Asset tag field was still empty. So I guess User Specified fields don't have as much weight as File Specified and Chip Specified fields when it comes to showing some string in BIOS Setup Screen.
I start to suspect that maybe I have a defective BIOS ROM Chip in on my motherboard, and this YYpire-thinggy comes from it. -
Don't know it should have worked, I transferred all the mainboard info from my previous mobo to my new mobo this way. And it has got nothing to do with the BIOS chip. And even if it does, you can't do anything about it, other than replacing the mobo, because it has an 8-pin SOIC BIOS chip which is soldered and not socketed....
You can tell Acer you see this thing, 'cause I also bought my mobo from ebay , and it had all the info screwed up. Probably its a thing with Acer replacement mobos. It won't affect performance in any way.
Your BIOS info is still better than mine, I used to see this sh*t in my BIOS with my replacement mobo..

Thanks for staying with me on this, buddy.
I'll keep looking for a way to change this YY-thingy. -
I wouldnt even bother worrying about it , I mean its cosmetic only.
BIOS v1.3811, YYpire 5920g, spelling mistake?
