Its time to change the battery in my Aspire 5520. I pulled the battery out and it says 11.1v but when I search for new batteries any battery that has a decent mAh is 14.8v.
The only replacement battery that is at the Acer online store is the 14.8v. It doesn't even say anything about the 11.1v.
I know that if you put the wrong voltage battery in the laptop bad things can happen but I was wondering if the laptop is set up for the different voltage.
Any help is much appreciated.

Good question.
The only way to know for sure is to check with Acer. Replacement batteries seem to cause a lot of problems, as they are more than just a collection of cells. They have inbuilt electronics for power management, and many "generic equivalents" do seem to cause problems not being recognised etc. Many notebooks can accept a higher capacity battery (higher cell count etc), but it's not guaranteed, and can cause problems, this is why you need to check for sure, possibly even quoting the BIOS version installed.
If Acer say yes, get the exact type and part number and where ever you order from make certain that is what you get. Or get an absolute assurance from the seller that it is known to be fully compatable
