So I turned on my laptop today to find that the keyboard, touchpad, and usb ports weren't working. I read through some forums on another computer and found that if I take out my battery, it works again. So I tried that, and it worked. I need a new battery anyway because I only get 15-20 minutes max life, so I was wondered if my computer is broken, or did this problem occur because my battery is about dead.

Also, does anyone know a good site to buy a new battery for my 5674wlhi? I looked around, but all the sites seem somewhat fishy and I don't want to be ripped off and get a bad battery.

    Thanks,
    Matt

Yeah the 'almost dead' battery could be the problem, it seems like it's acting like a big resistor the current can't pass through and supply power of all devices..

As for where to buy new one I really don't know..but new one will be expensive..

Strange, but with all the notebooks I've owned over the years, I've never had to replace a battery, and two of my current machines are well over three years old now. If this problem were my own, I'd contact either Acer, or the store from which the machine was originally bought.

You haven't mentioned how long you've had your machine. If I'm not mistaken, most builders warranty batteries for six months, though I have seen posts where folks claim one year. Is your machine/battery under warranty (sorry if that's a dumb question - I'm not really familiar with Acer products)?

Acer notebook batteries are really not good. I have two acer notebooks and both batteries died about 13-16 months of usage. Both cases are similar to Matt's here. The damaged battery caused mouse unmovable and computer run normally if the battery removed.
