My girl friend has a 14 inch Acer Aspire that cost a fraction of my (admittedly 2 1/2 year old) Thinkpad and it some respects works better. I prefer a 15 inch. Is there any consensus on the best 15 inch Acer? Thanks.

The 5940G that's being prepped for release will easily take the cake there. Core i7, DDR3 RAM, ATi Radeon HD 4650 1GB DDR3...one sick machine.

Interesting specs but a 15" laptop that still sports 1366 x 768 resolution is not exactly awe-inspiring. Acer could at least have offered a better screen option.

I have an Aspire 5940G and it is pretty good. I removed all the bloatware and it runs well, currently testing it out on various games. I am very happy with it.

You forgot to ask the most important question (Killer Specs and all): How much is it?
If it cost around the same as other similar spec system it is not worth it as they usually come with lousy BIOS/EFI Firmware...
If Acer isn't cheaper it isn't worth considering...
