My Gateway 6860 just fried after two years of perfect use... /tear
So... I'm looking for a nice replacement. I know I can get one of "these"....
Newegg.com - Recertified: ASUS G71GX-RX05 NoteBook Intel Core 2 Duo P8700(2.53GHz) 17.1" Wide XGA+ 6GB Memory DDR2 800 500GB HDD 5400rpm Super Multi DVD RW NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M
Is there a better "bang for my buck" out there? This looks like a steal really. I know I've read that Acers are starting to put out some nice notebooks.
Thanks![]()

I poured over laptops for the last 3 weeks trying to find the best bargain out there and ended up with the 4820tg timeline series. It offers either an i3-350 with 320gb HDD or an i5-450 with 500gb HDD, both models have an ATI 5650 discrete graphics card and offer ~6hours reported battery life.. The only sacrafice that I saw with this deal was a 5400rpm HDD vs 7200 in other models.
I was unable to find a better deal. -
Try to find acer 7552G (with AMD Phenom and mobility radeon 5850). Or some other brand with mobility radeon 5730.
In my country similar model of this Asus and this Acer have similar price.
Acers have either 5650 or 5850 so its impossible to find one with 5730. -
For gaming, go with an Asus. They're a little more money but very well engineered for the price. If you can't afford an Alienware, Asus will do nicely. Either the G51 or G73 series. Stay away from the Lenovo, Dell and HP gaming laptops. You can google "republic of gamers" and see some nice models.
Most of the Asus models offer Full High-Def screens and they are truly beautiful displays. (1920x1080). -
The one in the link looks pretty good, but if you want the new i5 cores
+1 for 4820TG if you can find one, i5 450M + 4GB + ATI 5650 1GB.
Rumor has it that the are going to be refreshed with i5 460M.
The GPU is weaker than the Asus in the link though, but the CPUs on the Acer 4820TG is upgradable.
Best bang for your buck gaming Acer laptop...
