Firstly - does anyone know the how I can get in touch with Acer Support in the UK? All I can find is an Aspire One support website that then links to the US Support site (who can't seem to help me)...

    Here's what I asked them...

I have just purchased an Aspire 5741 and am finding that when running plugged in to mains power the fan is repeatedly coming on and off all the time. The fan comes on at high speed approx every 60 seconds and runs at a high speed for approx 3 seconds then slows down again.

I have tried elevating the rear of the laptop so that the vents underneath have room around them but it makes no difference.

I have tried changing the power settings in the (Windows 7) control panel for the graphics so that it runs optimised for battery (ie low power) all the time but this made no difference.

I have tried downloading and installing acer ePower but this did not seem to run properly when installed.

I have had several laptops in the past and they all ran the fans for a couple of minutes when they get hot then when they had cooled down again the fans went off. With the Aspire the fans do not seem to run for long enough to cool anything properly before switching off... and then 60 seconds later they come on again.

Is this a known issue? Is there a version of ePower that work on an Aspire 5741 running Windows 7 64bit? Is there another solution?

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi john,

Were you able to solve the noise problem with your acer machine. I am too facing exactly the same problem, fan is going on and off in cycle, epower installs but does not run, i'll be grateful if you share your solution here.
