Try the howto in Timeline Tweaks(near the end of the first post) and report back if it works or not, please.

no, it does not work. It already fails when I switch on the notebook - according to the tutorial the power button should start blinking, but it does not.

The following happens: when I stick in the usb stick and follow the tutorial, then the notebook shuts down after some seconds, and some seconds later it starts again. Then it keeps running, without doing anything (nothing is blinking, the usb stick is not accessed).

I did the same thing too and tried all methods I could find on the net. Finally, I sent it to Joe at AQS Computer Services ($99 excl shipping). He managed to get it fixed. Fast and excellent job! Give it a try.

Man, that's very expensive. The most inexpensive way is to sent it to the Acer support; at least here in Europe.

This has got something to do with how you name the bios file in the flash drive - each notebook model needs a specific name; naming it as for older notebooks should not work . No one has posted the exact bios file name (******.FID) for any of the timeline models or the as1410 as far as i have looked around the forums. I always try to find the bios recovery procedure before flashing( 4 times so far :D) the 1410 has a very fast bios update schedule!!! One of these days, I am goinna brick it ...

I can't get any of the crisis methods to work. contacted Acer, they want $299 for a failed bios repair for my 4810t. (out of warranty) aqstech.com solution looks like it's it for me.

I'm experiencing the same problem with my Acer Aspire 4810T.

Being the genius that I am, I was trying to upgrade my Insyde Bios from version 1.10 to 1.31 using a Windows bios updater program I downloaded from the Acer support site.

After spending countless hours searching the internet for a solution for recovering from a failed bios upgrade and trying numerous methods out it seems pretty clear where the problem is.

It isn't so much of the method as it is of getting the correct .fd file name.

Holding down the Fn + Esc key and pressing the power button takes the laptop into bios recovery mode where it tries to find that xxxxxxx.fd file on the memory stick (you could tell it's doing that if you have those memory sticks that light up when they are being accessed).

There is a popular guide that someone posted on their blog on how to recovery from a bad bios on their Aspire One but the problem is that the ZG5IA32.FD file name the blogger is talking about only works for the Aspire One model.

What we need to do is get the correct .fd file name for our specific model since that is what the bios is looking for.

It would make things much easier if Acer made the bios look for a much simpler named file such as recovery.fd or bios.fd

So far I have had no luck in getting the correct filename for my Aspire 4810T.

It would be nice if a list was posted of the .fd filenames for the different Aspire models.

If you somehow manage to recovery your bios on an Aspire 4810T or know of any information that could be helpful please post a reply.

    Any help is appreciated. :)

I think good guesses for the filename would be
    JM41.FD
    or
    JM4151.FD

    YEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH !!! My 4810T is back :D

The correct filename is JM41X64.fd !!!!

    - Download the latest BIOS file from acer site (BIOS_Acer_2.31_A_A.zip)
    - Extract the zip contents and copy these file into the USB Thumbdriver
    - FLA.exe (found in the DOS directory)
    - GPCo231.bin (foudn in the DOS directory)

    - Rename the file GPCo231.bin to JM41X64.fd
    - Put the USB Thumbdriver in any free USB Slot
    - Press AND hold FN + ESC keys
    - Press the power button (can be released)

    Any questions, don't hesitate !

(Sorry for my english :) )

OK guys there is my story:
I have 4810TG and I was updating Bios every time when the new version was out. By mistake I used Special edition 2.31 but everything worked well.
Following your threads I was afraid to go back to "normal" 1.3.. version and didn't want to use DOS USB for downgrade.
Tonight I found the new "Corrects BIOS kernel code" 1.33 version on Acer web site, run update (downgrade from 2.31) from Windows and as you can see everything works fine.
Just for the end I love my 4810TG (WIN 7 32bit clean install from Acer upgrade disk) and battery use is 5-8 hrs. depending of usage. Now I am using USB 3G dongle for internet and getting about 5hrs.
    Cheers.
    :D :D :D

    Hello!

i apologize for my bad english.

yesterday i've done a bios update on my 4810t-944 using version 2.31.
to be able to do that, i installed windows7 x64 (ususally i use linux), to prevent failure possibilities.

after using google for hours, i found that post. i tried all bios versions from the acer homepage, 1.30/1.31/1.33/2.31 nothing is working.

i think, the reason for this could be the change of file id's from acer, refer to this post: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=451338

has anyone the same problem? what am i doing wrong?

    thanks for your help.

I found the solution for this problem.

    acer changed the file-types.
i found an older version of the bios (v1.20), you can download it here
    http://support.thetechguys.com/layout.aspx?ID={628d131e-5d20-465e-b58f-1645ec8f30a4}&CatID={e8bc7711-5ae2-4a71-b324-f2f1ee420131}
    - extract the content
    - rename GPC_V120.bin in JM41x64.fd
    - copy JM41x64.fd AND fla.exe into the root directory of a usb-thumb-drive
    - put it in an usb-slot of the 4810t press AND hold Fn + Esc and additional press shortly the powerbutton.

IMPORTANT hold Fn + Esc until you see flashing the accsess-led of the thumb-drive. The 4810t could freeze during the bios-flash, after 15 minutes turn it off, remove the thumb drive and enjoy the running system :)

    MORE IMPORTANT

NO WARRANTY!!!! Doing this could damage your computer

I have a new Acer aspire timeline 4810TG - olympic edition.
I have recently upgraded the bios (with windows flash) from version 2.31 (or 2.30) to 2.35.

The laptop is now not able to start up or to be more correct ,- to start up windows 7. I get an error message stating that there is a conflict with some of the I/O elements (harddisk, usb, dvd etc).

I'm now trying to recover to the preious version of the bios (v.2.31) and have followed the proposed solution above, but without any positive results. The laptop will not flash from the USB.

Is there a new name to be used on "xxxxx.fd" file replacing the file GPCo231.bin for the new olympic version of 4810TG ???

    Help urgently needed !

Just wondering, I've done the same thing with my 4810T. When I turn the power button on, the screen just stays blank. I tried to use this USB flash idea, but the laptop turns on briefly then turns back off, then on again yet the screen still stays blank. Is there a way we need to make the USB flash drive bootable in some way? There is a blog here at Kevin’s Blog that explains how to make a USB flash drive bootable. Obviously without copying the Windows 7 files to the drive and instead the bios files. I'm going to try and let you know what comes of it. I will be trying to flash with version 1.35.

Again, please give some input on the procedure in great detail to help us! Thanks.

Quick update, still there is only a blank screen, and the usb thumb drive doesn't seem to get accessed even with the ESC + FN keys held down.. very frustrating! The computer turns off immediately after I press the power button, then turns itself off then back on again, all the time while a hold down the ESC + FN keys. Still nothing :( please help!

    DON"T WORRY, bro...

Each time we upgrade Acer Timeline 4810 bios, then it will automatically change the SATA Mode (in BIOS) from IDE to AHCI. And it will make your laptop crash on windows.

Here the solution...after upgrade, it will restart then just press F2 (for Bios v2.35 upgrade) / F10 (for other Bios version upgrade). Then just change SATA Mode from "AHCI" to "IDE".
Save, and restart...And your laptop will be back to normal... :)
