Hi there, i searched a lot but found no solution for my problem - i turned my new travelmate 8471 into a brick by flashing it with the wrong bios (shame on me ;) ) - now i am looking for a way to bring it to life again - any suggestions? Its really bad that it happened 3 days after i got it and i have no idea because these models are quite new to the market - acer support also didnt give feedback yet - HELP IS REALLY APPRECIATED! ;)

I think you are SOL sadly. Hardware is worthless and motherboard must be replaced.

There are recovery tricks, but the question is, if it works for your model. The hardest part is to find out the right BIOS file name. I suggest to search on the board first and gather some info about the process.

I tried many of those tricks but there happened just nothing. But i don´t have a usb-stick at hand - can someone confirm if i would notice if the recovery-shortcuts could work without usb-stick? My guess was that it would "silently" try to get it from the usb-stick so i don´t see anything going on? I will never ever flash a notebook after that - its my first notebook, bricked within days!!!! ;)

well - i just sent the brick to the acer support. Will keep this thread updated as soon as i know more - so other people share my expirience. DO NOT FLASH YOUR NEW ACERS WITH BAD BIOS! IT *REALLY* HURTS AND CURRENTLY THERE IS NO SOFT-RECOVERY AVAILABLE!

I would like to know as well if that works. I actually tried it but there was no blinking or turning on at all - event though i couldnt test it with a good usb-stick unfortunatly. Could you tell me if there is any sign that this works if no usb-stick is plugged in?

current status: waiting for acer suppport ;)

yeah, it worked for a travelmate 8471 (and of course you need the correct bios for the TM8471)

but follow the instructions. make sure thumb drive is fat32, and rename the file exactly. you will also need the fla.exe on there as well.
