I've looked up many threads concerning this kind of issue but wasn't able to find anything similar. I just want to know if there is a way to solve this
I am(was) the proud owner of an acer 5740-434g32Mn notebook, and up until now i've been running the bios that came with him. But as i read through the 5740 owners' thread i saw that the 1.16 BIOS update was mandatory. So far so good, i download it from the acer support site, and the just ran BIOS.bat; I mention that i ran it while on battery power, and then the screen turned black. I waited for 10 minutes, and then noticing it was still black i pressed a key. And nothing happened, then i pressed the power button, and it seemed as it was going to turn on, but the screen didn't light on, and when i press the power button it just turns on and off automatically, and the cd-rom light blips. I do not know what to do. Please help.

Don't worry! It's probably very easy to fix.
Here's roughly the procedure to fix the issue.
Find a USB flash or floppy drive. Format it to fat32. Then you should copy download newest version of BIOS and find the BIOS image file. It will probably have extension .fd . Then you should copy it to flash drive and insert it into disabled computer. Connect the external power and press esc and fn. While they are presses, press power button. our computer should start and automatically install BIOS image from the memory drive.
It may happen that you have to change the name of the image to some particular name. It could also happen that you may need to remove the battery before starting this and key combination could be different. Unfortunately, I can't give you precise answer, but you can try searching similar threads, is was explained several times here how to solve this.
Hopefully some more experienced user will be able to give you explicit steps required to solve the problem. -
appreciate your help. i've searched the entire bios zip file from the acer website (v 1.10) and i didn't find a file with a .fd extension. i really hope there is a solution.

Read this.
Look for a WPH file and follow the procedure. -
I've actually tried that with an usb drive, formatted to fat , then with the wincris application burned the files to flash drive, nothing happened. I pressed the fn+esc combination , but when it turned on, the notebook was in its usual cycle of turning off then on, nothing different. I've read that it doesn't necessarily work with an usb drive. I currently have no other option than the usb drive.
i'll try it again.
Is there any key combination. or a specific different one for this laptop ? -
Well, since you are experimenting, here's another thing for you to try: Remove the battery, hold down pores button for 20 seconds, plug external power in and wait for it to start. Maybe it'll help. Sorry for not giving you better advice.

formatted the usb drive again. used wincris again. still nothing when i slide into my laptop.
Let me see if i got this correctly:
1. Insert flash drive. replace the "bios.wph" in the wincris folder with the one from your driver, keeping the same name.
2. Use wincris to install those 3 files on your drive, then remove it.
3. Make sure laptop battery is out, plug into ac adapter
4. press key combo fn+esc( what other combos are there ?), keep holding keys then, press power button, then insert flash drive. and it shouldn't turn off again right ?.
It seems that when i press the power button, the fan starts running the cd led and another led flash, also the hdd led turns blue, and then after a few seconds i hear a click-like sound and it turns off.
After a few seconds it turns automatically on and repeats the process, continuously. -
I've managed to get it off that continuous loop but only after i kept the fn + esc pressed and then press the power button. But i didn't leave the buttons pressed
, as as it started, i took my hands off the buttons and then pressed them again, now it's able to stay on, the cd drive is working, the fan too, but nothing happens; it's black. i've put in the flash drive in, when on, but still nothing happened. Should I try with a floppy ? Or can i make some sort of a recovery cd as my drive works now? -
First of all you should have the USB drive already inserted before you start with the FN+Esc procedure.
The second thing is try both names for the WPH file the default one and the BIOS.WPH -
I gave up and i returned it to the shop i bought it from and they said they'll see what they can do, and if not they'll send it in service.
I tried everything i could with the usb stick, i had no usb floppy, and i didn't see anywhere if there's a method to boot from cd, cuz only the led from cd-drive worked.
