I'm trying to get the wireless to work in my friend Acer TravelMate 292e. The bios version in his laptop is v1.2 which doesn't support Intel wireless. The support for the wireless was added in the bios v1.6.
I tried to flash Bios from v1.2 to v1.3, v1.3a, v1.6, v1.7 and v2.0 under DOS and Windows and failled.
Under Windows the error message is: 'This rom file size isn't correct'.
Under DOS the error message is: 'The project ID is not correct'.
Help!
v1.2 of the bios is for CL55 but Windows registry identifies the laptop as BCL53. In the other hand, sticker at the base of the laptop indicates that it's a CL51.
So which one is the correct one?

You sure you've tried the right BIOS updates? Check this page, and identify which laptop your friend has. IMO the problem is that you're trying BIOS updates for another model.
Edit: Apparently the newest BIOS for 292E is v1.2..it's all I can find for 5 min in this cybercafe
P.S. Hi all you ACER guys(BigO, hoggie, Andy etc..) just passing through see you soon I hope -
I've sent about a 3 hours a day last week googling for a solution to this problem. and this what I've found:
Acer has 3 models: TM290, TM290E and TM290D
TM290 ---- pentium M
TM290E ---- celeron M
TM290D ---- pentium M & dedicated ATI Graphics
The only difference between the MT290 and MT290D is the MT290 uses a pentium M and has a TV-out. The motherboards in both laptop are similar (I think).
Is there a method to force a bios upgrade such is the case for Dell's laptops?
p.s.
I helped my friend fixing this laptop 1.5 year ago. To do the repair I found that the motherboard in the TM290, TM2350 and TM4050 have motherboards with similar layouts...a motherboard of any of these systems will fit in the others.
