    Good evening everyone.
    <O :p></O :p>
My 8930G is approx 3 years old and has now developed a fault that is causing the screen to turn off.
I can view whatever I should be seeing on my screen by connecting up an external monitor.
If I use the Fn F6 key combo to turn the screen off and on again then I get a normal picture on the screen for a few seconds before the screen switches off again.
If I lower and then raise the lid I also get a normal picture, again only for a few seconds.
On raising the lid sometimes I get a picture that is flickering as if there was a loose connection somewhere, at other times there is no flickering.
Very occasionally I seem to find a position for the screen that allows it to continuously display a normal picture until such time as I either shut the lid or sleep/restart the laptop.
My suspicions are that it is either loose wiring/poor connections or the lid switch. I don’t know for sure - as I’m not very clued up on display technology – but I don’t think it’s likely to be the backlight, inverter or LVDS cable? Of course I stand to be corrected here by those more knowledgeable than I.
I do have a copy of the service manual and although I’m au fait with the innards of a pc I’ve never stripped a laptop down before (other than to clean the fan). Any warnings I should heed before I start?
    <O :p></O :p>
Before anyone shoots me down in flames I have tried using the Search Tool to find any relevant posts but was unable to find anything that gave me any clues.
    <O :p></O :p>
As always, many thanks in advance for any and all advice and assistance received. I will of course update the thread once I get to the bottom of the problem.

Seems like a LVDS cable is at fault. Find one using a service manual part number or simply a model number on eBay and replace it.
It should cost some $10-15 so a cheap fix.

I'd go for the one with the inverter. It costs almost the same and sometimes it turns out that it's not the cable but the inverter (similar symptoms).
Buying both at virtually the same price should guarantee that you'll solve the issue.

Thanks Downloads I'll let you know how I go on though it may be a couple of weeks before I order it so I'd say maybe a month by the time you allow for postage. I'll keep you posted though.

Before I forget though, I noticed that both dual inverters and single inverters are availabe for this model. How do I tell which one I need? The one in the ebay link looks like it's got a single inverter from what I can make out, would you agree?

In case it matters my exact model is Aspire 8930G 644G50Mn
