Laptop is a 8920. It plays blu-ray discs through acer arcade just fine. When you plug in the HDMI cable to the TV it will seem like it's playing then it stops and gives an error message. It will play movies off the hard drive through the HDMI cable to the TV just fine. I downloaded an installed the latest video driver. I have reinstalled vista (alt F10) as well. I sent the laptop back to Acer and they intalled a brand new blu-ray drive. Still have same problem. Anyone know of this problem and how to fix it?

For my knowledge I guess that is a kind of copyright thing. I heard of problems about connecting other laptops with blu rays with an hdmi cable to a tv screen.

If you're running the system in multiple display mode (clone or dual) that's your problem. You can only output a BD to an external display if your GPU is set to single display only, with the external display set as the primary notebook display. Is it a PITA? You bet, but it's the only way to get it to play to an external display.

The reason for this is BD pirating protection - it's assumed that any illegal copy operation will need at least 2 monitors, so they try and attack the issue there. The Error message usually shows up about 30 seconds into BD playback and will say something like "BD content Protection" or similar language.

If you're connected in single display only, with external as the primary, then you probably need to update your playback software. This was a major issue with HP notebooks last year, and HP solved it by updating their playback program, QuickPlay, which is a custom version of Cyberlink's PowerDVD.

The software update issue error usually happens with newer BD's, and will have an error that tells you to update your firmware. Since you didn't mention that, I'd say you''ve got the other issue.

Hi, you need to 'Fn & F5' until the display is on the TV only...

FN F5 didn't work, but using TV as only display in Nvidia display properties did work...thanks.

Last thing. - When viewing the desktop on the TV, the edges are cut off like the display is too large and needs to be shrunk. I've searched the laptop everywhere to find the settiing to adjust. Can't find it. Has anyone come across this problem and know how to fix it?

Hi, works a treat on mine, what resolution is your laptop running at and have you one to one pixel mapping set on your TV, such as 'justscan' on a samsung...

Resolution is at 1920x1080. Display area is set to normal. You can set it to -1 or -2. Its a Sony Bravia LCD. I didn't see a 1 to 1 setting but I think that's what the normal setting does.
