Hi guys,
Got myself an Acer 4501 WLMi and a nokia phone with bluetooth;
The phone has bluetooth, the laptop has not;
I want to know if I can buy the buletooth module and if so, where is supposed to be installed?
Cheers.

Been there; no luck with that;
Is there someone that has bluetooth on 450x?
I understand that in some parts of the world 4500 series ships with bluetooth. I need the serial no. of that part.
Mine was bought in the US, and it came without bluetooth module.
Thank you for the quick reply, but I am still looking 4 it ;-((((

How do you mean you had no luck? Where are you located?

Hi Jabberwock,
Have you managed to install the bluetooth module on your lappie?
I've searched the internet and forums regarding the installing of the bluetooth module on the travelmate 4000 series (it's the same module for the 2300 and 4500 series), but I found nothing. Well, not exactly nothing, but nobody seems to have done it (or reported to have done it successfully).
This is the closest I came to finding a solution.

The parts list can be found here.

Can anyone make out where the module is supposed to go??? Pretty smart of them to have an explosion diagram with numbers and leave out the number referencing in the part list. *rolls eyes*
The part name and number is BLUETOOTH MODULE W/ANTENNA and 54.T48V7.001 respectively.
I've emailed the following companies to see if they carry the bluetooth module and will be waiting for their replies.

I havent actually installed a bluetooth module, I was just linking to that thread.
From what i've heard, there should be a compartment under the battery (covered with clear plastic) where the bluetooth module should install. It connects to a small connector (im so helpful) and secures with a couple of screws.
Sounds pretty simple to install.

My computer may not be idiot-proof, but it's certainly dimwit resistant. -
yea it does sound simple but that's for the TM2012 users and the format is different. I can't find the compartment under the battery for this TM2300/4000/4500 series. It would seem I might have to disassemble quite abit to see what's underneath.

In TM 23000/4000/4500 and Aspire 1410/1680 bluetooth module is located under the top cover near towards the touch pad u will have to rip of the units top cover to install it .
The part number for BLUETOOTH MODULE W/ANTENNA 54.T48V7.001 ( Acer part number )
First of all see if u can get the Module ... the intalling part is easy all you have to do is screw the module in its place and connect the wire and your done -
Finally!!
Thanks george! Would you happen to have the service manual for the models you mentioned? If not, maybe you could provide some details on how to disassemble the top cover or perhaps some pics would do fine too.
It's my first ever laptop and I'm still new to the components etc. Spent 9 years with my desktop before that.
Anyway, at least there's some kinda proof that it's possible to get it done! []

Yes i have the service manual , but if its your first laptop i dont recommand you rip off..
There is more than 18 screws or to get full take the top off...
Having the integrated bluetooth is great...but its not worth ripping off and buying the $80 module add on...
Btw : Do any one know place to share files like ..the we share image at imageshack -
I know what you mean. I removed all the screws except for the three under the LCD screen. How the heck do u remove those?? They're placed directly under the LCD!!! Unless I remove the LCD first, but that's another matter.
Anyway, I would really appreciate it if u could send me the service manual. Pleaseee? Thank you soo much. []
As for sharing of files, it's quite impossible to get a totally free host. I'm using yahoo briefcase at the moment. It's far from perfect but it's enough for me. -
That screws are supposed to be removed once you get LCD off...its quite frustrating isn't...anyways just mail me ur address and i shall send u the manual -
I've sent my address. Thanks! [

For anyone who's looking, I got a quote for this part (54.T48V7.001 ) from one of the vendors mentioned in this thread for $99. My rep at PC mall (where I got the laptop) gave me a direct number at Acer and I managed to get it for $42 including 2 day shipping. The number is 800-816-2237. You need to select option 4 for parts and service I think it was...
Still looks like it'll take a bit of work to get it in there, but the $31+ for the actual part (rather than teh $80-$100) was a LOT more in line with the cost of an add in bluetooth job. Just so's ya know...
