    Hi,
Just got myself an 8204 and am a bit of a problem with the bluetooth.

How do i get it to work? I have switched on the bluetooth on the laptop and my phone can detect the laptop but that is it... It seems like i have no Bluetooth Software installed to search for devices etc.

"My Bluetooth Places" turns up nothing

    cheers

First of all check that your model actually should have BT installed.
Rightclick My Computer -> Properties -> Hardwae -> Device Manager
and see if there are bluetooth devices
With Bluetooth enabled (the blue leds on), you should se two:
    - one with enumerater in the name
    - the second with your device
If either one has Microsoft in the name you may have the wrong drivers installed.

You should have a bluetooth Icon in your tray (dark blue).
If you have a light blue icon you are still on MS drivers.
If you don't have an icon, look into control panel and see if an icon shows up there (darkblue, lightblue or even both).

In case you have only a light blue icon (or no icon at all) goto ftp://ftp.acer-euro.com/notebook/travelmate_8200/
got into the drivers directory and download file btw.zip containing BlueTooth Driver and Application version 5.0.1.1200
    unpack it and install it.
After this it should work with
-dark blue icon in system tray
    - two icons in control panel (one not doing anything but still breaking the installation if you try to remove it)

    Post-instalation
rightclick on the dark blue icon and choose the configuration menuitem.

    Note0: icon status
darkblue with red BT symbol when BT is disabled
darkblue with white BT symbol when BT is enabled
darkblue with lightblue BT symbol when BT is connected

Note1: if you have the wrong drivers installed the problems may not be limited to bluetooth. Check that all the other devices have the adequate and up to date drivers.
Something may have interfered with the initial installation when you received it.

Note2: The ftp site is from Acer Europe. If you bought your machine from somewhere else (or your supplier bought it from somewhere else) you may have to look on the site of Acer America or acer.com.tw. Usually the Taiwan site is most up to date.

Hope this is of any use

    Cheers

    Drio

Note that if you're planning on using a BT mouse, you're better off with the MS BT driver than with the ones Acer provides (I was getting regular drops with the latter). Not sure what the impact of using the MS drivers would be on the VoIP phone since I never use it.

    Hi,
Thanks for that i tried that, But still to no avail. When i try and vhange the setting s for discovery etc it wont allow me to save them.

When i try to find devices it keeps throwing up an error satying that the Bluetooth Radio must not be installed.

However when i do a search using my mobile phone the laptop pops straight up..

Its, frustrating the life out of me.

(PS i have the bluetooth switched on)
