Can you boot up 8930G on a USB drive and make that drive primary?

I have never actually tried this however you could create a bootable image (assuming linux) onto the drive and then set the boot priority in your bios to boot to USB first (Plug in ur thumb drive before you enter bios as some bios' will actually show the name of the device). In theory this should work. Were you wanting to keep the info already on your HDD or just keep the recovery partition in tact and use the rest of the HDD for storage space?

Thanks! Crossing my fingers. I don't want to mess with the new hard drive yet and thinking of taking it out and replacing it with an SSD but for now I only have a USB in reach.
