Hi, I have been trying to boot from an external hard drive connected through USB2 on an Acer Aspire 1692WLMi. The HD shows up in the BIOS under "floppy" but there are no actual options to boot from a USB device. Selecting to boot from the floppy with either Ubuntu or WindowsXP on the external HD doesn't work.

I am using the latest BIOS from Acer.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Possibly an issue with the HD controller, unfortunately not all external hard drives are built equally, and you may just need to try another.

That is assuming that anyone has managed to boot and Aspire 1692 from an external hard drive before.

So let's ask the question formely: has anyone ever been able to boot from a USB device (pendrive/flash or external HD) on an Aspire 1690/1692?
