Anyone have any information on the ATi 6550 GPU?

Edit: Kind of disappointing to not see the TimelineX have a newer GPU. I was already upset the refresh did not bring USB 3.0

I would think the 2011 Acers would come with a SB processor, Ati 6XXXX graphics and at least ONE usb 3.0 port.

The german link has the 4820TG with USB 2.0. Seriously? Why on earth would Acer update the GPU and CPU and not include USB 3.0?

I think Intel doesn't particularly like USB 3.0 so you need an external controller to make it work (at least it's not supported by current generations of chipsets).
External controllers cost money and don't really give you your money's worth as USB 3 is not really a standard yet.

Acer has announced a Sandybridge Model, the 5750 will get a Sandybridge CPU and the HD 6550 or 6570 GPU. Intel's Sandy Bridge shows up in notebooks

Are they going to upgrade the Timelinex series with a 6xxx series GPU and then upgrade the Madison Motherboard after CES?

Intel is not throwing into USB 3.0 because it has developed its own, "Light Peak", which is faster than USB 3.0. So now we have the controller wars, who will win?

Should we wait for Light Peak or or run with USB 3.0? I see another VHS vs Beta debacle here.

Apple is putting Lightpeak in the new April 2011 MBP's, and Lightpeak is backwards compatible with USB 3.0 (I think) so...

How is lightpeak backward compatible with USB 3.0? Backward compatible would not be the right term, it would be inter-operable but I cannot see the two technologies being compatible. On one hand USB 3.0 reserved optical connectivity capabilities, but one the other Lightpeak cannot power attached devices.

It would take a great sabotage for Lightpeak to beat out USB 3.0

I find it troubling that Acer is not adding SB to all their Timeline X series.

If in fact they do not add SB to their Timeline X series, they will drop the ball.

    12-13" is popular among consumers.

There has to be a few manufactures who will compete with Acer's Timeline X models, especially the 3820 series.

Sandybridge will have it's greatest impact on dual core processor units with integrated graphics only or larger units that would normally use quad cores. I do think that Acer will add Sandybridge units because Intel will almost force them to. By March or April would be my guess.

lol SB sucks. you cant OC them since their front side bus is locked
you can only get those with an unlocked multiplier since they come at price premium
    intel is smart

doubt laptops will have unlocked multiplier cpu

    2. You want to overclock the CPU in a 13" laptop?

With its dual fan/sink system the 3820TG is an OC'ers dream. Mine hits a stable 3.7ghz in turbo and is optimized at 3.664ghz max turbo speed. The I5-580M is the fastest OC'd so far at 3.8ghz. The I7 dual core do not seem to OC as well as the I5s.

This is good news either way. Prices on current 3820TG/4820TG units should drop a bit.

Now, if they'd put higher-res screens in the 4820TG that'd be sweet.

    , where's the 3820TG?

Plus, it needs to get to North America, the good not watered down versions.

Good thing I saw this thread, even though most likely these won't make it to North America as well. At least now I have an excuse to not buy the i3 3820tg from Canada. :)

offtopic: Bronsky, I could not resist anymore to ask: Why do you write Chinese always as "chineese"? lol

    Oh lawd he's raciist!

But yeah, many here like to buy from the Pchome for the higher specc'd 3820TGs and 4820TGs. Still, it tends to be much pricier than the Canadian one (~$200 difference?)

    I'm planning to get the Acer Aspire 7745G-5464G32MNks with Core i5-460M & HD5850. has 4 GB DDR3-1066 SO-DIMM and 320 GB SATA 5.400 U/min. It costs
    780€ in germany right now...
I was going to get it for christmas, but do you guys recommend to wait until
next year? Would the wait be worth it?

    Schenker is offering for 960€ 17", 5870ddr3 + 8gb ddr3 1333mhz, 7200rpm hdd, i5-460m sounds better to me!

    for 865€ you can get 15" schenker with 445m(apparently slightly better than 5850), 8gb ddr3 1333mhz, 7200rpm, i5-460m

one has to consider the ati vs nvidia driver support etc, but this seems to be the wrong section for this... ^^

no idea what to do, how about the experts give us a hand here? ;)

p.s. I see 555m series on the way! On one hand I can't wait anymore, on the other hand the wait is maybe worth it...
