The function keys controlling the brightness doesn't seem to work anymore, however all other keys do.

I later discovered by closing the lid and immediately opening it again would give effect to the brightness key settings but it doesn't do it simultaneously on screen as you would expect.

Note: I changed graphics mode to "discrete" in bios as I was tired of the screen flickering when it decides to switch graphics card. 95% of the time I'm on AC power anyway. Could that be the culprit?

    (See sig for specs)

I think I read someone's complaints about brightness keys not working anymore with Cats 10.10- do you use these drivers too?

    Bingo!

The Fn+ arrow brightness control only works when "switchable" is selected in Bios. It then works with either graphics card being used. I also use "Bios Discrete" all the time, as I am on AC 98% of the time, and just live with the issue.

The issue with 10.10 drivers is different. Fn+ arrows does not work even when switchable is selected in Bios.
