I'm pretty sure I'm screwed.I was installing a RAM module into my 3680-2022 and the lower slot broke.A piece of black plastic fell off the side and there are 2 metal strips that are some kind of clasp that are now disconnected.
Now it doesn't recognize anything in that slot. The upper slot is still fine though.
I bought it exactly 2 months ago from Microcenter.

    Anyone have any ideas?Thanks.

Well your choice is whether to go to Acer and replace the motherboard.Or go to some of the laptop repair centers [warning : Doing the second one will void your warranty]

Would the cost of having Acer replace the motherboard be worth it?I only paid $420 for it.
Would one of the laptop repair places just solder a new slot in or would they also replace the mobo?

Oh well. I guess this ends the XP/Vista dual boot experiment.
I'm just going to wipe the drive, reformat and install XP with 1 gig of RAM.That will work good enough for what I need.I doubt I'll buy another Acer though, the little piece of plastic that broke is only as thick as a matchbook cover.
I know they are trying to save on weight, but they know the RAM slots are going to be stressed. That's just poor build quality, not efficient design.

If you want more than 1GB RAM, it will be cheaper to buy a 2GB module to put in the single working slot than to get the motherboard repaired / replaced.

I've owned a Compaq and a HP and neither one were so flimsy.Like I said of course they need to save on weight, but they shouldn't try to do it on the one part everyone will be stressing.
I've spent a lot of years repairing small electronic stuff and I know cheap when I see it.

I did a stupid thing with my Aspire 5684WLMi

Cables and stuff everywhere and managed to kick/ fall /trip over the cable connecting to my Laptops power in terminal.

To my horror(after the incident), I saw the plug was halfway pulled out and that would have meant that I had really messed up the socket badly. Too much force on the socket and now the M/Board would be history.

I am happy to report that everything is still fine. Acer is doing good stuff here. Solid engineering where it matters most. That socket is always a problem and when I saw what had happened I was thinking the worst.

But I think I am still a very lucky guy. You should have seen the look on my face when it happened.........

    Acer rules and thanks

Me too, changed memory in many PCs, mounts are not made to be abused so it needs TLC. Have worked on computers since 1978.
