I have an acer laptop. One night it was working and the next night both the power cable doesn't work properly and also the touchpad is broken. Power cable is half sorted but is there a way to tell if the touchpad is the software at fault or the hardware. I'd guess it's the hardware so are replacement touchpads possible? expensive? and easy to install?

Sorry for being OT (not being able to solve your problems), but are you the same loser from the Reaper/kvr boards?

    Cheers

OK. Tell us what really happened. Dropped and/or maybe fell off a table onto the touchpad with the charger plugged in? Maybe you accidently tripped over the power cord (I have done it and the lappie ends up on the floor). Need to know before we can really help here :p

    Cheers,
    Theo

funkster: not that I know of

TeeJay: There was nothing specific that happened to make it stop working. I think the power cable is down to just general wear and tear as it's not well looked after. the touchpad was however working one night and not the next morning with no notable accidents that i know of.

Some models are suffering from a battery fault which stops the touchpad from working (sounds odd, but its true) so try without the battery plugged in. Also check that its switched on using the Fn+F7 (I think) keys. If this doesn't work then it is possible that a re-install will fix it. If not then the touchpad can come separatly or as part of the cover it is located on. Both of these can be bought relativley cheaply on ebay. I would stress that if you are going to go down the route of fixing it, get the touchpad and the touchpad board. These are two seperate boards. One is the touchpad itself and the other controlls it and usually has the buttons on it aswell. Hope this helps
