Can anyone who owns this laptop confirm this issue with me.
I will escalate this issue to Acer if it is a common issue.

Weinter, if you mean the DEP turned off in the BIOS, I have the same problem with my Aspire 5942G BIOS v1.03

I think we should escalate this Issue. I also want the DEP to be turned on.

On 5942G, they have updated the BIOS now, and it fixes the DEP problem.
It's now supported by the processor.
Have they done the same for the 4740G ?

A new BIOS should be out in the next week or so that will address this issue. :D

Does it unlock the Intel HD Graphics?
I will forgive Acer only if they did.
I mean the hardware is there, the Intel VGA BIOS is there, so what is stopping Acer from enable switchable?
Don't lie to me about the impossibilities... I dug into the EFI Firmware and saw all the functions possible...

As far as I know it only enables Intel XD bit and hardware DEP.

They should have enabled "Switchable Graphics" in 4740G to give everyone a pleasant surprise....
Oh well the most uninteresting OEM: Acer.

Hi, will next week's BIOS upgrade also address the Unusable Memory Issue? I added a 2Gig RAM on top of my 1Gig so now it's supposedly 3Gig but it says here only 2.49Gig is usable. That's 17% of wasted Memory! This issue has already been acknowledged by other users

Have you checked the amount of RAM you share with the GPU?

I can ascertain that the Acer Aspire 4740G Firmware doesn't map the memory properly even in 64bit Windows 7.
I have a few theories regarding this.

1)Some of the memory hole are not remapped properly

2)Because of the Intel HD Graphics although the Firmware doesn't enable it, the HD Graphics is still actively trying to allocate VGA Memory to itself.

    Solution?
Do everyone a favour and Enable Switchable Graphics like all other OEMS with 310M. :)

This one has a dedicated graphics memory, 512mb, NVIDIA Geforce 310m

Blame Intel, had they had their drivers ready during final testing the unit would have included this functionality.

I can perform the testing if only Acer will enable the functionality.
    I have a suggestion.
Acer can let users switch between graphics but set the default setting to discrete only.
This will let users who know to be able to enable the function yet it won't affect users who do not know the function exist.

It is 13/5 a week from this post...where is the BIOS...
It takes more than 1 week to toggle Intel XD Capability from 00 to 01 for Acer wow I am impressed.

I have a creepy concern about this. I've tried upgrading my BIOS from 1.03 to 1.05 by downloading it from the Acer website and following the readMe file that told me to run "Insyde_Winflash.exe" . so I closed all my programs and processes and plugged-in my laptop and ran the program. But it froze halfway!!! I was so damn afraid to restart the laptop so i left it standing there overnight. When I woke up horrified the next morning to see the laptop still in a frozen state, i decided to restart it (since the goddamn Acer support hotline has been busy for 2 straight hrs). Thankfully when it rebooted everything was back to normal and BIOS was still 1.03

Anyway Acer sent me a BIOS update V1.07.
DEP is now fixed, although they didn't enable switch-able graphics.
