I setup a similar model for a customer. Came with the intel graphics instead of the 540m. It had that cheap plasticy feel to it. The screen wasn't terrible. No denying there's a lot of bang for the buck there.

I'll just post my first impressions

Well I ordered it from Newegg and it came in a fairly large box, when I opened it it had the usual basic packaging, little foam blocks on the edge. It was fairly easy to open, the screen and top of it are GIANT fingerprint magnets, its obviously loaded with crapware so I reinstalled windows 7, reinstalling was a pain to get all the drivers working. I have yet to game with it but I'll post more when I do. Overall I like it

Awesome...I figured there would be some crapware. Sorry you had to deal with that.

Eagerly awaiting your opinion on performance.

Any chance of some real world photos? The standard pics don't seem to represent it very well....I wouldn't have thought finger prints would be an issue with this laptop.

    Thanks!

I'll try and get that done this week since I'm off school for a week. As for performance the only game I've played on it is League of Legends, but I just installed GTA IV and Dirt 3 and I'll be posting my fps from both of the games. Oh yes, the laptop is extremely wide, like so wide you will look at it funny, but it doesn't affect anything. The battery life on mostly max power savings and browsing the internet is about 3-4 hours max, performance wise though I would expect this laptop to perform roughly around an Alienware M11x.

Just a side note but mine only has the i5 2430m, not the i7 so it might perform a little bit worse.

Just bought this model yesterday. Love the price for the specs and I have had positive experiences with ACER laptops in the past. So far I like this laptop but will post a more comprehensive review later with more use and run some benchmarks if wanted.

It does not have a back-lit keyboard.

It has 4GB of ram (2x2GB).

Newegg to me is the absolute best website to order electronics from. They set the bar high and all other websites look to them as THE example of how to run a successful online retailer and their customer service is superb. I do occasionally view other websites for price comparisons but I've had bad experiences deviating from Newegg. I have perhaps purchased over $100k in product from Newegg over the last >10 years with no complaints.

I did the same price comparisons when looking at this laptop and newegg has the best price (like you noticed) but if you live in California you will pay state tax. That is the only qualm I have with newegg and its not their fault but its still the best deal on the net for this laptop. $630 after taxes.

Will post pics of keyboard soon

+1 Rep for you my friend!

    Thanks for the pics!!!

NewEgg is AWESOME!!! If in doubt, look them up on reseller ratings. They have been around forever and have a stellar reputation. I have bought from them for 10 years or more now.

i was asking about it as i saw this in description.. "LED backlight & Acer CineCrystal Technology"..

by the way.. what exactly is this above mentioned LED Backlight??? is it got something to do with the monitor??? or something else..

That would be completely up to you man. I'm not gonna tell you how or when to spend your money. All I can say is that it's a good deal and I like it. Review coming soon.

Yes, the screen is LED backlighted and the keyboard is not.

Led backlit is the screen not the keyboard, theres no backlit keyboard on this :/ but its still an amazing deal. One little thing I have against this laptop is the odd position of the trackpad which seems to get bumped a little more then it should when I'm typing but if you use an external mouse and disable the trackpad everything should be fine. Also, the keys are a little bit smaller on the keyboard but not a big deal once you get used to them.

Here is a link for 3DMark 11. If you could just run the benchmark test only and give us a result that would be great. Also I would like to know the temps when running games on it as well. Thanks.

Not really impressed with the results but it is completely stock. I don't really notice the temps being an issue with normal use but I haven't been playing any games yet. I'm going to play some TF2 and let you guys know how the temps are during about an hour of play. I might install Crysis and post frame rates as well.

Once, I'm done with my review I plan on swapping the HDD(w/scorpio black), bumping it up to 8GB RAM. (already ordered)

Update: 1 hour on TF2 and the temps weren't really a concern, a little warm underneath but it has excellent airflow. Smooth graphics, but it is just TF2. Will install Crysis another day. Oh and as to build quality of the laptop, it has solid feel to it, especially the keyboard area. Only thing I don't like is how small the arrows are and where the home and pg buttons are but I like the num pad.

Also, the sound is above average compared to most of the laptops I have used.

It's not bad for a notebook with moderate gaming. Especially for it's price. I'm on the fence between this laptop and the Acer with the A6-3400 AMD chip. Glad to hear the keyboard feels solid. I'd like to get the scorpio black as well. It's unreal how much they've gone up in price the last couple months.

Just installed 8GB ram, still waiting for my scorpio black HDD.

Peakr, the prices on HDD are unreal, I had to buy mine off Ebay because it was too much on newegg. Although black friday has some good deals for HDDs around the web. Buying some just to stock up or sell considering the prices will stay high because of the Thailand issue.

Looking at a lot of good deals for laptops... this one not being the best deal out there anymore :( oh well, I'm still happy with it. Should have waited.

    Personally I absolutely love it. I have the core i7 with 8gb ddr3 ram and 2gb gt540m.

stock it ran around the 8500 on 3dmark 06, but overclocked and everso slightly tweaked CPU it ran the below:

im really impressed with it being a laptop. it runs skyrim on high fine and runs mass effect 2, assassins creed brotherhood (both on their highest settings).

I would recommend getting the core i7 with 8gb ram if you can, basically so you know that you have got the top model which will be more future proof im sure.

I was going to opt for the core i5 with 6gb ram and a 1gb graphics card but i saw this for £100 and thought.... sod it! loved it since i got it :)

easy to use, nice keyboard, good screen, finger prints galore for sure but when do you ever look at the lid of the laptop!?

overall, 8.9/10 id give it. only negatives being the optimus driver installed and the integrated graphics sometimes getting in the way.

not tested extensively but as far as I can tell (ive had the fans full chat) and they are not loud. temps wise mine never rise above 87 for GPU and about 75/80 for processor, something in that region. typically level out about 2 degrees less than the above, just ensure you have good air flow and you should be fine!

no problem and good choice :)

just played portal 2 on near ultra settings with AA, Vsync, etc on and returned a pretty much constant 60fps. really happy with it :)

also this was in 1080p! im currently linked to my hdtv via hdmi, very very handy for monitoring your overclocking as I have windows gadgets monitoring cpu, gpu, drives and network on my laptop screen, with portal 2 on my tv :)

    best of luck!

I ended up purchasing this laptop after all. I wanted to have my laptop in my hot little hands when SW:TOR went into Early Game Access, but this model was still sold out at New Egg.

So, after much hesitation, I ordered an expensive HP Laptop using one of the coupons from this website, and wouldn't you know it, later that day, this laptop became available again. As soon as I could determine that I could return the HP, I ordered this baby. I wasn't in the minority as it quickly sold out again. I wasn't able to cancel my HP order before it shipped, but I have to hand it to them, they were no hassle at all to return it after I received it 2 days after Christmas.

Back to this little jewel of a laptop. I didn't even let the system boot up with its own software, I immediately installed a Windows 7 Pro and using my work laptop, I downloaded the network drivers from Acer's very detailed driver website. I found everything I needed there, very easily, I might add.

Performance wise, I cannot complain, it is speedy, plays SW:TOR very impressively. I have only had a few minor graphic stutters, while gaming, but I am certainly not a video-phile and I'm not going to complain about what I've received for roughly $600.

My only complaints about this laptop are the glossy screen, which can provide some washed out displays and odd viewing angles and the fingerprint magnet top casing. I don't use the touchpad for gaming, so that really isn't something I would complain about. I bought this one strictly for playing an online game and I've been ecstatic about it since receiving it, especially on the limited budget I am on right now.

This past week, G-Skill 8 GB 1066 RAM was on sale and using my handy $25 coupon from New Egg, I purchased it for $2.99 delivered. Having installed it, I can say that I have seen a small boost in response time, but overall, I don't think it is affecting my game much. In replacing the RAM it came with, I was impressed with the design of the drive bay and RAM area in this laptop, it was easier to access than many of the HP and Dell laptops I work with at the office.

If anyone wants some benchmarks, I'd be happy to provide some if you can point me to what to load and run.

I also wouldn't mind any tips on overclocking it a tad, if anyone has that info.

Still loving the performance of this laptop, however my video card fan is now starting to be a little annoying.

Are there any Acer gurus around to offer any advice to quieting it down?

    TXvaiouser, thanks for bumping this!

I just ordered this laptop last Saturday and it should be coming in sometime next week. Just like you, I ordered it primarily for SWTOR and I am really glad to hear that you're having some pleasant experiences with it. I've seen some youtube videos from this one person about how they can play SC2 and BF3 on nearly ultra settings and they're still getting considerably high FPS.

Can you post what kind of FPS you are getting with what settings in SWTOR??

Running Fraps, with all High settings, but with Bloom turned off, I am running between 25 and 40 fps, depending on amount of people around me and what not. I turned bloom on and it was running about 18-20.

I could probably stand to tweak this more, so maybe I need to look around for a guide on tweaking SWTOR.

My only complaint right now about this rig is that the GPU fan is pretty loud when gaming. I'm not sure there is anything I can do about it, so I just turn up the TV or the game I'm playing.
