I know that the top resolution on the 5672 is 1280x800, but is there any way to increase this?
I would really like to increase the amount of visible real estate if possible.

That's possible, but the problem is that you should match the native resolution of your LCD screen in order to be the quality to be halfway decent.

That's impossible. Your LCD can't display anything higher than it's native resolution! Even if you set 1600x1050 (just a matter of driver) you'll see only 1280x800 crop.
