    Hi

I am seriously considering cancelling my Dell Vostro 1500 order due to the delay in production.

I think I am going to buy a 5920G even though it will cost me £175 more than the vostro.

It is avalable for £799 from http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_5920WSMi_Laptop_LX.AGS0X.015/version-1.asp (this is the non bluetooth with 1gb turbo memory version)

I have just seen it for £770 from http://www.laskys.com/pcs_and_laptops/laptops_and_pdas/laptops/acer_as5920g_302g16n.html and they have it in stock. The thing is is says it has bluetooth in the spec so does this mean it doesn't have turbo memory as I would prefer the turbo memory version?I thought uk versions were turbo memory only?

    Thanks

I have the one from Laskeys and it has bluetooth and no turbomemory.
There are 2 configurations at present in the UK, one with bluetooth and no turbo memory and one with the opposite.
    http://www.acer.co.uk/acereuro/page...en&ctx3=-1&ctx4=United+Kingdom&crc=1345599010
I went with the bluetooth model simply because it is a lot simpler to add turbo memory at a later stage than it is to add bluetooth (unless you want one of those horrible dongles sticking out the side)
Also it seems that Turbo Memory isnt really worth having anyway.

Thanks for the info Mike :)

You can ignore my PM now!

After reading about it more in depth the turbo memory is not essential so I think I will ring Dell tomorrow and cancel my order so I can order the 5920 instead.

    Thanks

Personally I don't think you will be disappointed.
Its seems very well made, I presume all the comments about Acer build quality are based on older models.

    Final question :D

Does the laskeys one have the wireless n adaptor or is it just 802.11 a/b/g?

    Thanks

I`ve bought two 5920G`s from comet (£799) in the last 3 weeks and have to say they`re awesome little machines. I sold my 2k desktop to free up room in our small house and now i`m able to play rfactor and all manner of stuff without issues whilst sitting on the sofa downstairs :)

Bought the 2nd one via an insurance claim on the missus` old laptop and got a comet gift card with which we immediately rushed in a 2nd 5920G order. We now play guildwars on high settings without a single hitch.

I loathe vista but you cant have it all, supppose i could slipstream an xp cd but having never done that before i`d prefer not to take the risk.

The comet 5920G is the bluetooth version btw and i`d agree with what the earlier poster mentioned about being able to add turbo memory at a later date.

Thes 5920`s are highly overclockable too should you wish to do so. Some people having reported scores of 4000 in 3dmark 06 is quite interesting !

The laskys one has wireless N and will be exactly the same as the Comet one as Laskys are part of Comet.

My mind is made up...the vostro order will be cancelled tomorrow & the 5920 will be ordered

I just need Mike to clarify about which wireless adaptor is in the Laskys one :)

When I bought mine last week it was £729.99 delivered
Also, if you use Quidco then you get another £19 back.

before that, the laskys model was £729.99. Doesn't seem such a good deal now since its gone up £40.

I think many would prefer the turbo memory model, if they don't wish to void their warranties, or open up their notebook. Good luck finding stock though. I don't envy your chances...

Im so happy I purchased from laptops direct the first day (friday) they got stock. It was shipped to me over the weekend and I got it Monday. It seems however, everyone is having trouble getting stock of the turbo memory model. Amazon have run out, no mention of getting new stock. Laptops Direct are pushing the date outward eachtime a deadline for stock is met, and ShopAcer, who listed the avaliability of the 5920 at the same time as Laptops Direct, have NEVER received any stock...

When somebody says "grab it whilst you can" they really mean it when talking about this laptop.

I hardly think you are going to void the warranty by adding turbo memory, however there is a good chance you will if you try to add a bluetooth module.
Also I have yet to see one article that actually says the Turbomemory has any worthwhile effect anyway.

I'm not bothered now about having turbo memory.

Mike can you confirm if the wireless card is 'n' as well?

I have just signed up to quidco and even at £770 I'm still saving over laptop directs price.

    Thanks for the help

Also if there is a problem I know which one I would probably want to deal with.
Not that I have had any dealings with Laptop Direct but they state you have to deal direct with Acer whereas Laskys will prob take it back themselves.

All I can say is it made a big difference in overal Vista gui performance, I've noticed this on my desktop that use ready boost thru USB pendrives, the boot up initializations are A LOT faster with readyboost, windows open faster.
The ready boost thru turbo memory is basically an internal usb pendrive.

Vista would not have this feature in if it did not make any difference.

Ah well, you are happy with your Turbomemory, I am happy with my Bluetooth and we are both happy with the 5920G so all is good in the world :)

Ah well I couldn't resist it, Amazon have the Turbo memory module for £20 delivered and I had a £5 voucher to use so it cost me £15.
Will be interesting to see how it works.

Oh well looks like I am not destined to be a 5920G owner!

I rang up to find out about how to cancel my Dell order I told them I would ring up the next day to cancel as the waiting time was too long.

When I rang the next day they said my Dell had been shipped so it looks like I will be a Vostro 1500 owner.

The Dell looks fine, had it not been for the lack of a HDMI output I probably would have considered it.
You can though either refuse delivery or under the 7 day selling regulations send the laptop back if you really don't want it .. it has also been known for Dell to offer a discount if you phone them saying the laptop wasnt really as good as you expected .. I know because they did it with my Inspiron 6000 .. I got an extra 10% refunded.
