My daughter cracked the LCD screen of our ACER ASPIRE 5253-BZ480. Acer wanted $200 to replace it, but we paid less than $400 for the computer.

I've found it on ebay for $72, but the seller says to make sure the "backlight type, size, and resolution" are the same as my laptop.

The computer I bought is this one:

    Acer® Aspire AS5253-BZ480 15.6" Laptop | Staples®

The screen I'm looking at says it's:
    size: 15.6" WXGA
    resolution: 1366x768
    backlight typ: LED

Will this screen work with my laptop? I don't know what "WXGA" means or where to find the resolution of my laptop. I've attached a picture of the label on my laptop. I looked in the box that the laptop came with and there was no user's guide or anything with the info I'm looking for.

As you can tell, I'm computer dumb, so any help would be much appreciated.

what you really need is the part number. Under device manager, you can select your LCD screen and the manufacturer / part number etc and it should show you. I'm running linux right now so I can't tell you the exact sequence to find it, but it's not that hard to find in windows.

Then get in contact with the folks at Affordable Laptop Accessories, Adapters, Batteries, Keyboards, LCD Panels & More - Hootoo.com who carry replacement screens for 15.6" acers for ~$68 or so. They should stock what you need.

Note that you may also be able to buy the replacement LCD from Acer, but I've never bought stuff like that from Acer and you have to know who to call or you'll get nothing but a runaround.

Thank you very much! Unfortunately I can't see a thing on the screen, the crack goes all the way down it diagonally. I may try to call Acer just to get the part number. Thanks for your response!

If you've got an external monitor, or can borrow one, use that.

If it's completely unusable you can get the model number of the LCD from the back of the panel itself.

You have to take it out anyway.
