I recently purchased a Acer Travelmate 230 and it works excellent! One problem tho: When i start playing movies or flash files or when i start using multiple applications at once the laptop starts making a weird buzzing noise.
What is even weirder is that it stops if i flip it upside down. This is starting to get annoying as i need to work on my website and it has flash and need to open multiple applications at the same time :(

Any help would be great, Thankyou.

Hi. The fix described in the link below worked for me.

Basically have to stop windows from turning off the USB root hubs to save power. Don't know why it worked. You can change the power settings from the the device manager under control panel - system - hardware.

Hope it works for you also. The noise from my laptop was driving me nuts.

    Andreas.

Well thnx but it did not work, I tested it by playing a game on my computer (Rise Of Nations) and after 2 minutes i heard the same noise again. Let me better describe:
Use of a multimedia application (flash, game, videos etc)
    Fan speed acceleration
Buzzing noise (clearly buzzing not hissing etc)
Goes away if system put on standby.
I think it has something to do with the computer heating up, but im not sure.
Any help would be greatly accepted. Thankyou.

Yes, I took it to my local shop and the fan is not functioning properly. So i have to go to Toronto and find a replacement fan....hopefully a non-acer better fan because this is a good laptop!
