I am creating a clean install disc for vista home premium to eventually use in a dual boot with XP 32 or 64,
I am following some guides that were recommended to me by Ops on NBR. (Stallen/Orev) and I am going step by step. I have found that the SWSetup is for HP laptops only.? I have located the DRV file which has all drivers for the Acer 5100-5674 (or most)
Is there a folder similar to SWSetup that has the "crapware". I would like to make sure I backup everything that I may want now or in the future.
has anyone been successful in clean installing vista home premium on a 5100-5674?
Advice and guidance needed.

The SWsetup folder is something specific to HP laptops, so you won't encounter it on any acer setup.
What you should do is get a clean install windows disc (read Orev's guide on how to obtain one) install home premium and then activate it using the key on the sticker on the bottom of your notebook. Afterwords you can reinstall all acer drivers for the aspire 5100; you can get the drivers / utilities /Bios updates from the acer euro FTP located here. -
What qualifies as a clean install windows disc?
Is the Anytime Upgrade Disc considered a clean install disc? -
Is this correct?
The point of Orev/Stallen and all the other guides is to do a clean install without the bloatware and having to call Microsoft for "re"-validation.
My computer has been pretty funky for some time now, so a clean install even having to ask for permission....would be a good thing.

What directories do you have on your C:\ drive? Have you looked? I have a C:\Acer\ directory on my laptops that appears to have some of the Acer programs in it. I do not know if that is the same on your model though.
One question though. If you are creating a clean install disk, why are you worried about the crapware?
BTW: You can download the drivers from the Acer website as well as some of the crapware. Make sure you have the Launch Manager so you can use the specialized buttons on your laptop. I think that's the only real piece of Acer software you will "need".

Pretty much I just didn't know all that is on this computer ( I am really just learning as I go) and I wanted a backup of programs that I may want or need in the future. (somewhat anal-ret when it comes to computer back-ups)
And the thought just did not sink in.
After reading your post I realize that this is just unnecessary and If I haven't used a program in a year then I probably don't need it.
Thank you for asking this question and the the link.
C:\SWSetup Folder? Not in Acer 5100-5674?
