    Hi All,

Apologies if this has already been answered but I've had a good look through & can't find anything relating to this particular problem.

My mum (bless her heart) has managed to get a cd stuck in the optical drive of her Acer Aspire 7520 laptop. The drawer opens but unfortunately the CD remains inside, as far as I can see it's jammed above the metal casing.

I've search everywhere for instructions for removing the drive as I'm pretty certain that this would solve it but alas no luck ..... which is where you guys come in. Any suggestions gratefully received.

    Thanks

Usually its just a screw at the bottom , about 15cm from the opposite direction of the optical drive door ( bottom of the laptop case) .

If you remove that , you can slide out the all drive .

Do you have a set of hemostats, if so they should be able to reach the disk and extract it.

    Hope this helps

Errr, have no idea what hemostats are - sorry. Am an enthusiastic novice at this sort of thing (which is usually a lethal combination)

Have tried your advice kiariakost, unfortunately the drive does not just 'slide' out & I don't want to force it.

I think that she's somehow managed to slot the cd in above the drive casing which is why it won't come out.

Is the a way in through the top? sorry if that sounds dumb but hey, as I've already said I'm a novice :)

Well on a second thought , if the CD inside blocks the area , it would not give you much free play , in order to remove the drive .

One picture with a digital camera , would help us more , in order to advice you more specifically .

    Loobyloo,

I am sorry hemostats are kinda like needle nose pliers. Doctors use them when they stitch you up. Anyhow, they would work perfect for you to extract cd. Perhaps you have a long thin pair of tweezers

Do I sound french? actually I have just found some forgotten photo's of last years holiday in France on my camera, which is nice.

Now please don't laugh, but I've uploaded my best attempt at taking a photo of the jammed cd, as you'll see it's quite tricky to do!!!

Ahh I see. Thanks for the clarification docholliday but sadly no, I don't think I have anything like that but will go and have a rummage around the house to see what might do it.

If only you could find something that looks like this
    [IMG]
In order to fix your laptop right, you might have to buy one.
Local hobby store is a good place to start looking for a set.
They come in handy for lots of uses, would be money well spent

Found some thin tweezers but unfortunately they weren't thin enough. I think the only way to get the CD out is going to be to dismantle the case which I guess I should really leave to someone with more experience than me .... unless I feel brave in the morning !

Ok contact ACER about getting it, in their service facility .

    1) You will loose the warranty if you open it by your self .
    2) You can possibly damage the exterior.
    3) You can possibly damage internal components .

There is no breviary , a true messed laptop.
