Hi. I own an Acer TravelMate 8204. Every so often I hear a buzzing sound eminate from the location of the CPU. It doesn't happen often and I usually don't notice it until I am in a very quiet room. Most times it starts once the CPU is under load. The sound is sometimes a high pitched buzzing and at other times it is a clicking noise. Right now I can hear the noise through the headphone output. It occurs with each keypress. The problem is not an extreme one as it is cured with a reboot and does not happen often. I would just like to know if anyone else has experienced the same. Maybe someone can also shed some light on the cause of the noise. Any help will be appreciated.

yes, i have heard the same thing too with my 8204. it doesn't seem to happen all the time. but like you mentioned, when it does and when i hit keys on the keyboard, this little buzz comes through. it is not very loud, but loud enough to be heard when the room is quiet. i have no idea what it is. it is the first of my 3 laptops to make this sound..... wonder if all 8204s do this???

anyone else heard of this buzzing sound?

    cheers

Check the older posts. There are two things "buzzing" in 8204: GPU under heavy load or the soundcard. GPU should be glued (Acer makes it under warranty) and sound card buzzing can be "fixed" by muting Line In.

Thanks for the replies. I tried the suggestion to mute Line-in and it instantly got rid of the problem, at least for now. Thanks for the help.

Is this the same as some sort of clicking or buzzing occuring while playing a dvd? I have that problem with my 8204 and it makes watching a dvd a little annoying.

It is a sound that comes from the speakers while watching a dvd. Kind of like static. That would be the best way to describe it. Only happens when watching a dvd. Also, is happens less in WMP than in the factory installed powerdvd software. Maybe i can update some drivers or something if muting the line in doesn't work. I hope it does though.

May be a stupid question but I am finding the same clicking noise and interference when playing DVD's. Was just wondering how I mute the line in. I have windows XP.

    Cheers chaps.

Double click the volume control icon in the system tray. That should bring up a host of volume control options one of which being the line in you are looking for.
