Is there a list of latest CPUs that could be used with Aspire 5670,beside the T2600 that mentioned?how about the T7600 and SP9300...?

BIOS v1.3224 included support for Merom CPUs, and various micro-code updates were added later. So, I believe the T7600 should work fine with the latest BIOS. The T7200 or T7400 are bang for the buck CPUs.

The T2600 is quite fast itself, and you'll notice a small boost in performance in CPU-intensive tasks when upgrading to the T7600.

I have started researching this a bit and am interested in the Low Voltage (Lxxx) versions of the Yonah Core Duo processors since they use ~15W instead of ~31W for the Txxx processors. That would have to make a significant improvement for heat and battery life.

Specifically I've identified the L2400 (1666MHz) and L2500 (1833MHz) which both have the 667MHz FSB.

It doesn't appear these are in production anymore or are of very limited supply? I can only find a few places that sell them and they are used. Can anyone provide more info on these, if they would work and can be had without too much $$$ premium I think they would be a great solution for the 5670 Aspires.

Not only are they not in production, but you can't even upgrade to them!
Low-voltage CPUs tend to be soldered to the motherboard - hence the "FC-µBGA" socket (BGA = Ball Grid Array = Soldered to mobo).
I've seen maybe one instance of a PGA LV/ULV CPU, and that was because it was soldered to a small piece of circuit board with pins!
Otherwise, you're looking at a Core Solo - those run at 27 W.

EDIT: Okay, eBay surprise time! That one guy with all the ES CPUs also has L2300s with pins. He also has a U2400 (1.06/2M/533) or a Core 2 Duo U7600 (1.2/2M/533).

I'm excited that you found the L2300's on eBay. Originally I didn't search for those since I assumed all versions were available and I wanted to keep at least the same speed as my current processor. But given the limited availability it might be worth dropping from 1667MHz (T2300) to 1500MHz (L2300) to get a low-power processor and the resulting reduced heat and increased (however slight) battery life. It's tempting but not necessarily something I feel compelled to attempt right now. If I do I will definitely post results here. Anyone else feel like giving it a try?

Well, you could always undervolt whatever processor you end up getting, or even the one you have now. Same deal - less heat, more battery life.
Go check the Undervolting Guide here on NBR for more.

The T7600 2.33GHz arrived today and subtituted the old CPU(T2300) in my 5670 and now it runs smoother than ever before.
    highly recommended!

It seems that T7600 is the last frontier CPU upgradable for Aspire 5670,am I right or am I wrong?

You are indeed correct - nothing faster was made for the 945 chipset or Socket M.

    Hi!

    I have a Aspire 5672AWLMI which has the T2250 @ 1.73GHz (2GB ram, X1600)

I was wondering if it was possible to upgrade to a core 2 duo (ie. T7400) because my T2250 has a 533MHz FSB and most people here are upgrading from T2300 which has a 667MHz FSB. Is this a problem? Or can my 5672 also handle these C2D's?

    Nick

EDIT: I have the latest 3239 BIOS from the EU acer website.

Your laptop has GM945 chipset right? Then, if I'm not mistaken you need a socket M CPU and yeah T7400 is a socket M.
So yes, I think you can upgrade safely to T7400. You may want to stick around for a bit though someone will hopefully confirm that.

Everest says its a Mobile Intel Calistoga-PM i945PM (and i also just found out that my system is Napa platform capable which is Yonah and Core 2 (Merom)

Only thing I was worried about was the FSB speed and compatablity. However will the FSB change to the new FSB from the (for example) T7400?

Also thanks for the quick reply ATG :)

Hope some others can confirm too!

EDIT: also would the T7400 generate alot more heat? I dont have any AS5 applied yet and my 5672 had alot of heat issues (shut down after 5 mins of far cry 2) but i solved that (temporarily?) by cleaning all the dust out of it (which was alot!).

Dust is laptops enemy, it can increase the temperature up to 30ºC!!

FSB should go up to 667Mhz, I wouldn't worry about that and I don't think T7400 will increase the temperature of your laptop .

Yup my laptop is now 20ºC cooler :) 65 under load.

Ok good to know :) i've seen some T7400's on ebay pretty cheap (125 euro)

What performance increase can I expect from it?

Well, I did a similar upgrade(from T2370 1.7Ghz to T7500 2.2Ghz) and I definitely noticed a performance boost. Nevertheless don't expect miracles, it will run faster but not much.

125 euros for a T7400 sounds pretty insane , very expensive. Where are you located?

The Netherlands, is that expensive? :p, was the cheapest I could find!

It's pretty hard to find socket M processors in most webshops. Mainly socket P (dont think that would fit...)

Well I thought so but guess it's normal. I found one for 120 euros + free shipping here.

And no, socket P won't work.
