I seem to have corrupted some drivers on my 8920 so I reverted back to factory defaults but the issue was not resolved. Can someone that has an Acer 8920 please look at your device manager and tell me what driver is installed under the monitor device? Mine shows a Generic PNP Monitor I dont think this is correct. Please post what yours is showing so that I can replace mine from a drop down list.

i don't think it's going to make a difference in the functioning of the LCD display,,, but i understand your wanting it to look more professional than a GENERIC monitor...

i felt the same way after UPGRADING to XP PRO from vista... MY XP installation now shows 3 plug and play monitors... (i think one is for the HDMI and one is for the EXTERNAL VGA connector... in addition to the LCD)

Well you are right about functioning but I would still like to know because I know it affected my nvidia control panel I have some features missing since then and I think once I place the correct driver then things would be back to normanl.

it still would say generic monitor

video drivers read the EDID from the monitor hardware itself not drivers so that driver should be sufficient. what exactly is the problem with the display?

I lost the ablity to split the screen from one to double, triple and quad from the nvidia control panel I know it was there before because I played with it before and now its gone. The only thing I was able to find was this driver that got detected and installed as generic pnp monitor in the device manager before and after I reverted back to factory default from a corruption I had after trying to install a sprint aircard. After the corruption I ran the system file checker from the command prompt which fixed most of the drivers but not all. So I think when ran that utility it replaced the driver with the generic one.

Mine does say Generic PnP monitor. If you are missing the HDMI options on the nVIDIA control panel then it is because you have not connected the HDMI cable in yet. Connect the HDMI cable to your external LCD, close the laptop lid and now go to your nVIDIA control panel and check if the missing options are there.

I never did connect a HDMI cable before but the options were there. So then if others have a generic one what happened to my features in the nvidia control panel? Those who have the nvidia 9500m gs please see I am not going crazy. Does yours give you the ablity to change your laptop screen to double, triple or quad? I am not talking about the acer gridvista but it would do the same thing. So what did I do wrong to lose that feature?

I don't see any double, triple or quad option. Where would this be?

If you have vista right click on your desktop and on the drop down menu click on nvidia control panel then you would look under display> set up multiple displays.

you have to plug in the external displays in order to reveal this option.
