    Hi all,

    My notebook is Aspire 8930G with T9600 CPU, 2.8GHz, GeForce 9700M GT, 4GB RAM ( ELPIDA 2GB 2Rx8 PC3-8500S-7-05-FP ) and 1x320GB HDD. I bought it at Oct,2008.

Now, I have upgraded the BIOS to version 1.2 and try to upgrade the RAM size from 4GB to 8GB.

Finally, the notebook can only recognize 6GB !! :(

If I replace the CPU by T9900, can it support 8GB RAM ?

If it can, are the pin assignment of T9600 and T9900 the same so that I can plug the T9900 in the same CPU socket ?

    Thanks.

If BIOS only shows 6GB, then that's what is limiting you. If there is no newer BIOS, nothing you can do about that limit.

Almost certainly a BIOS limitation, as hardware is almost always limited by powers of two / i.e. number of address lines.

Do you mean my computer can support 8GB RAM, but it is limited by the BIOS ?

If yes, I can request Acer to provide me the BIOS which can support 8GB RAM.

must be on 64bit or it wouldnt see 6gb
if it was anything to do with the video using ram it would have also shown up when he was at 4gb
pagefile uses HDD not ram so cant see it being that and again it would show up using 4gb if it did

No, this is incorrect. The amount of memory seen in the BIOS is not affected by the OS.
