I recently purchased the Aspire 5920 that has the Intel 965 X3100 IGP, does this have the MXM slot to upgrade to a discrete GPU that is found in some of the 5920 range? I bought this at a good price for my son but now he wants to kick his old mans behind at Company of Heroes and I just cannot see the x3100 handling that at even low settings, I'm new here but you peeps look knowlegable so any help and advice would be greatly appreciated. I am a performance desktop person, laptops just arn't my thing...until now ;)

    TIA D3fiant

Nope, it does not have ' that' MXM slot, the motherboard is totally different. (And Integrated Graphics are not upgradeable)

Your only option is to swap your motherboard for the PM965 chipset Motherboard and then buy the MXM GPU, which in total, would cost you a fortune. :)

    And welcome to NBR ;)

    Andy is right,

to upgrade the graphics of that laptop, you would have to also replace the motherboard with a board from a 5920G model... that G at the end of newer ASPIRE models indicates the presence of a dedicated graphics card that is replaceable, models without the G have the video built onto the motherboard and are not upgradeable.

    sorry...

Thanks for the swift replies and welcomes gents. I thought as much, but to be fair I did get Company of Heroes running on it last night @ 1280x800, and even with the eye candy turned down it didnt look that bad. COD4 was a whole different kettle of fish tho :S Still it was never bought to play games and we are still very very pleased with it, especially at the price we got it for :D

    Thanks again

those are great machines for the price... too bad we can't do something about the graphics... but what can we really expect for the price we paid??

i got my PC for $348 plus tax back last november 1st when walmart had a secret BLACK FRIDAY sale.... so i'm really happy with what i got... especially after CPU, RAM, and DVD BURNER upgrades...

i have $495 plus some tax and shipping tied up in the specs listed below :D

I have been pleasantly suprised by the ability of the 965 IGP, really didnt expect it to play CoH, apart from the occasional screen flicker it handles it fine. I paid £299 for my 5920, it came with 2Ghz C2D, not sure on the T number, 2GB memory and a 120GB HD. It was a refurb but looked brand new when we opened the box, platic protection sheets and everything :)
