Can I upgrade the BIOS of my Gateway EC1435u (Acer 1410-2285)?

Today I received my Gateway EC1435u (Acer 1410-2285 clone) and it's VERY nice but it's too bad the screen is so darn reflective.

    Anyways, two quick questions:

    1) Are there any BIOS updates available? Acer shows a bunch but Gateway's site doesn't list any.

    2) Can I delete the first OEM reserved partition? I'd like to install Windows 7 from scratch because I don't need all the bloatware that Gateway installed :)

    I was thinking the same!

My girlfriend has a Packard Bell Dot M/U, which is the same as the Gateway, and no BIOS is available at the PB site.

BTW, at first I though that the used the same chasis, but actually it isn't. The PB is a bit different and the screen hinges too, they aren't the same.

How timely of a question. I just order the same Gateway and am expecting it early next week. Can't wait.

I had also noticed this Bios issue before I ordered it. Figured I would call or email Gateway support. Has anyone done this? Might be interesting to see what they say. One thing I did notice, the driver software listed for the EC1435u is identical to the Acer AS1410 (depending on the os running which you can choose on the Acer site). Makes me think that they are the exact same guts...

However, I am definitely going to wait to see before I try any cross pollenation of bios between the two.

Yes, it works. Flashed my EC1435u to the Acer bios today. Bios still shows Gateway in the ID string.

ETA: Bios was version 3117. Will be upgrading to 3303 once I do the WWAN/SIM mod.
