Can anyone get apps like AnyDVD or DVDRegionFree working on the 8204?

I've got a whole bunch of DVDs from various regions and want some flexibility to watch them on my 8204. However, I can't seem to get an application which allows me to do that. DVDRegionFree and AnyDVD don't seem to work. With AnyDVD, it blames it on RPC2 :(

My drive's a Matshita UJ-840S. Is anyone facing similar problems? Any workarounds (w/o having to flash my drive)?

Not that I know of. I use AnyDVD and it has worked like a charm. Sorry for not being able to provide you with an answer.

Thanks for the reply, camsimple. I'm still confused as to why it didn't work. I'm not using illegal discs or anything :( Grr... I'll go fiddle with it some more.

Nope. I've got 4 more changes. Currently set at R1.

Is it only supposed to kick in once I've exhausted my 5 goes?

Thanks ejl. Perhaps I need to assign a region? Hmmm.. I don't know if it has a region assigned. However, when I do a hardware check, it says current region as Region 1. Isn't that assigned already?

it seems like it is....since you still have a few more tries, i would set the region to something and then try anydvd. if that doesn't work, i would look for that rpc1 firmware patch.

Thanks again ejl. I'll go back and try it. Currently in the office w/o any DVDs to watch (bummer!) but will try to see if that helps. Your response is appreciated :)

Manufacturer has some additional changes if you have used your 5 (I think another 4, but not sure), but you have to go through the hassle of convincing them.

Don't want to scare you (or anyone else) but just having (=different from actually using) this software is illegal in some countries (e.g. EU directive already implemented in Finland).

This is really annoying. I can understand that this is necessary to prevent piracy but I don't have pirated discs. I paid good money for my DVDs and now am in a fix cause they all happen to come from various parts of the world (I travel and shop online so have discs from various regions).

I think that manufacturers shouldn't be so narrow minded.

Thanks ejl but that link is for Sony OEM drives. I'm not sure if they will work as planned and more importantly, flashing my drive will void my warranty :( I don't want to do that (yet).

I'll see if regionkiller works, thanks :)

    Hi,

I don't know whether you got your problem solved or not but you could also try to use your desktop (provided you have a desktop pc, or if you don't have one than you could use an external burner) to make a region free backup of your dvd using DVDShrink or something similar.

    BR,
    Peter
