    Hi guys.
I consider Acer 5112 a good buy and I am about to purchase it but I was wondering, wouldnt it be better to wait a bit for a 5112WLMi with Turion X2 with 2x512 L2 cache, namely TL 52/56/60 etc. Since TL 50 has only 256kb which makes it more like a sempron and not competitive enough (opposed to Core Duo), I think that soon other 5100 series laptops will be available. I need a laptop now but I can wait not more than a month. What do you think, can we expect Acer 510X with TL > 50 soon ? (less than a month)

The cache makes little difference in AMD based systems. So between the 256K TL 50 and 512K TL 52, the performance will be very very similar. Expect the difference between 0 - 5%.

As for whether Acer will update the processor with the TL56/60, they might but dont expect one anytime soon since the 5112 is very new.

Take a look at the review below comparing the Athlon64 X2 3600(2GHz/256K) vs X2 3800(2GHz/512K). The difference is very minimal and classifying it as a Sempron does not make sense...

Not in Canada, and probably not the US as well. Germany looks to have them however.

I sent a e-mail to Acer Canada asking about the other 2 processors and xp64 and was informed :

"Acer Canada does nto currently offer the xp64 platform bit option for any our notebooks. Also note the Aspire 5110 series will not be offered in Canada in the AS5114WLMI format. Only models listed on the www.acer.ca are Available in Canda."

To see the models available in most countries look for a "Product Catalog". That will list the info for the machines there. For Canada it listed just the 5112 with XP Pro both in English and French as well as a Media edition Os in English and French.
