I have an aspireone that im using in a carputer setup. Rather than mounting it on the floor right side up with the vents to the carpet, I plan on mounting it upside down, giving the vents inches of airspace. Is this a good idea or will the heat rising this way be bad... or will this bring down the hdd's life? Thanks.

Testing is the only way to know, it will probably be ok as these things run so cool in the first place.

My EEE 1000H actually lets you flip the picture upside down or sideways right from the display manager so its like it was designed to do it.

Alright thanks. It SEEMS to be cool (as in if i touch it), I was mostly concerned if an hdd isnt made to be or something. I started worrying about it when I put an HP laptop upside down and it got hotter.

A full sized laptop probably has a heatpipe cooling solution and those things often are made to work only when orientated in the proper direction as they work based on gravity.

The netbooks though are just heatsinks and fans that work in any direction, my wife has a bad habit of using her EEE on the bed completely blocking the vents and still doesnt get warm.

on the EEE user forums there have been people that turned off there fan completely for a silent operation and they never had it die ether.

Question is, can you rotate the display to reflect the change in orientation?

I would also imagine that the car heat (from the roof) to be significantly hotter then the floor, which is cooler.
