i have a acer aspire 3002lci 1.8ghz AMD semperon i want to upgrade to at least a 2.2ghz processor but im not sure if the motherboard will handle it.

IF you can, you will need to get a AMD Turion 64 MK-xx(I don't remember the number).

The turion 64 MK-xx series won't work in the 3002lci, as the aspire 3000 series uses the older generation socket (754) semprons and turions. What would be need is one of the MT-xx series of turion 64(lancaster) or 2600+ or higher series of semprons with socket 754 connection. AFAIK you can go from the sempron to a turion without any problems as long as they both use the same socket. You can see the spec sheet for the aspire 3000 series here
Can you upgrade the cpu on Aspire 3002lci
