    Hi all ,

So I finally got the 5920 and just can't get used to Vista ( my next buy is going to favour XP installed/ready unit ) .

According to the forums tips for easy Xp install on the Acer 5920 I did the following :

    1. Created restore discs + a driver disc .
    2. Updated the bios to the latest version .
    3. In the bios changed SATA ACHI to IDE in order to enable XP install .
    4. Managed to install XP home .

But after I updated the drivers including the SATA driver and tried to set the bios back to ACHI SATA I got a blue screen at boot with an error in the iostor.sys driver .

The driver posted at the forum looks like the one on the DVD , but could there be anothe driver ?

Maybe someone can give me clear instructions how to solve it ( the driver I got doesn't have an easy setup.exe ) ?

    Thanks in advance ,
    Gilo

Try my post here. Let me know if this solves things for you. I imagine the 'SATA' and 'IDE' Bios settings control a compatibility mode much like the 'AHCI' and 'IDE' Bios ones. Remember, we're not really updating the drivers- we're manually replacing them with the 'wrong' ones, rebooting, then changing the Bios setting. I assume you have the Acer Aspire 9520; the proper drivers for it are here. Good luck!

Thanks for the info , I did what you said , that post along with some other posts here in the forum helped me get XP running .

But still when I change back to AHCI I get a blue screen with the iostor.sys driver to blame .

The notebook is indeed Aspire 5920-6313 , maybe I need to choose another controler but I have no idea which one ?

Also I got duplicate primary IDE and secondery IDE entries .
