    Hi all.

I've been really tortured with a problem for about a month, with an Acer Aspire 5310, trying to find the proper drivers after downgrading it from Vista to XP. Well, what I got working so far are the Chipset driver and the VGA driver.

None of the sound drivers I've found has worked so far (Sound System: Intel High-Definition audio with MS-Sound compatible (and Dolby Digital Live)). I also have exclamation points in the Device Manager menu:
all under the heading "Other Devices": Ethernet Controller, Network Controller, Flash PCI Memory
and one under the heading "System Devices": PCI Device

I've been searching a lot, red about similar problems that other people had but yet no solution. I don't know what I do wrong or where else to search...

Do u know any link for what I really need? Or could u tell me the steps I should follow to fix this kind of mess? Please let me know as soon as possible, I will really appreciate it...

    Hi Knightendo.

Well, I've already done this over and over in case i missed something but this situation insists. The drives that Acer provides for Aspire 5310 are not supported while using XP, as far as I tried.

Whatever found in Google, was also not working, or seemed to be "installed successfully" but without progress.

For example, I intalled the Realtek HD Audio driver for XP from here:
    http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads...=3&GetDown=false#High Definition Audio Codecs
and after the "successfull installation" I still have no sound.

I feel quite suspicious about a conflict but can't be 100% sure...

The original link that Knightendo gave you is for the vista drivers for your aspire that is why the windows will complain that the drivers are not compatible. Acer however have released Xp drivers for a few models on their FTP and you can find the direct link to the XP drivers you need here

Select the aspire 5310 folder on that link and you will find the XP drivers you need. :)

    Hi Evolution.

Thank you for the link. I found here all the drivers that were missing. There is still some more work to be done though.

The only exclamaton now is in "System Devices": PCI Device
And yet no sound. But the system now recognize a "Bluetooth Hands-free Audio" (I don't have such a thing) as the Default Sound Device...
In Control Panel -> Sound, "Bluetooth Hands-free Audio" is the only option as an input or output device (mic or speakers)... :(

    Hi Skibums.

That link leads to the same drivers as the one that Knightendo mentioned, but both were so usefull.
The situation changed after I tried to update the PCI Device driver, using the "Update Driver" option in the Device Manager menu.
(So far I had been installing each driver from its folder after unzipping). The sound problem was then fixed.
After that, one last exclamation appeared in "Other Devices": Modem Device High Definition Audio Bus but I did again as above (for the PCI Device).

My nightmare is finally over. Thank you all for your time and helpfull suggestions!

    Hi KvjGt5,
You said << [...] The situation changed after I tried to update the PCI Device driver, using the "Update Driver" option in the Device Manager menu.>>

Where do you find PCI Device, since this is part of the chipset ? I mean I don't have this category in Device Manager. How could I find and update this device ?

And where did you update from : XP install CD-ROM, internet, LAN ?

    Thx,
    SWPriest
