For the life of me I cannot do this.
I up/downgraded my 5620-4025Z from Vista to XP Pro.
I have finally successfully loaded all drivers except for one (or two).

In Device Manager under Display Adapters it lists two identical lines/drivers with yellow exclamations for 'Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family'.
One is on 'PCI Bus 0, device 2' and the other is on 'PCI Bus 0, device 2, function 1'.
Driver details show a version of 7.14.10.1318 with a date of 8/20/2007.

I tried updating these drivers from the Acer Application & Driver backup CD that I made prior to wiping Vista and from an equivalent driver download from the Acer Support site. However, Windows says that the driver cannot be installed and may be corrupt.

My laptop boots up correctly into XP and I've changed the resolution to 1024 768 wth 32 colors so can I assume this is just a default VGA driver in use and not what I should be using?

    Any ideas are greatly appreciated

Also, does it make sense to reload some of the Acer applications that I backed up such as eNet Management and/or ePower Management?

    Thanks.
    Walter

You can download the chipset drivers straight from the Intel website.

    What is your video card?

The Extensa 5620-4025 uses the Intel GMA X3100 graphics adapter.
    Download the XP driver here.

    Thanks.
I can certainly try that. Do I take just the GMA driver or also take the Matrix Storage Manager (don't have SATA or RAID)?

    Thanks Andy.
If I get it from Intel do I need GM965 or PM965?

Just the GMA driver - if you don't have SATA or RAID, don't bother with the Matrix Storage Manager.
Your system actually has the GL960 chipset, but the GMA drivers are the same for it and the GM965, and the chipset drivers can be installed on the GL, GM, or PM, and will configure itself properly on installation.

I still have no idea why the same driver (or at least what should be the same driver) from the Acer Application & Driver CD that I created when Vista was loaded) does not work/install correctly.
I assume both device manager lines w/yellow exclamations will go away when I install the one driver.

Here's hoping/praying that the GL960 driver I get from the Intel site works....

Wait, do you have the Graphics driver already installed, or is it a new installation ??

If already installed, then uninstall the previous one, restart and then install the new one.

Holy cow (if cows can be holy)! That did it. I uninstalled, rebooted, closed out the Found New HW Wizard and installed the Intel drivers. Now all is well and I have the Intel GMA tray icon.

    Thanks much!

Now, what are your thoughts on reinstalling any of the Acer goodies like eNet or ePower Management stuff. I wouldn't mind having some visual on battery level, etc.

    Thanks again.

What sort of visuals and stuff/goodies would you want to have in the taskbar etc ??

For battery level and stuff, check out RMClock or Notebook Hardware Control.

I vouch for RMClock. Acer Empowering tools are giant failing turds in XP, and front-ends for better utilities in Vista.

The only Acer thing I use in XP is the Launch Manager. Everything else was junk. RMClock is good stuff. Forget the eTech stuff.

That seems to be more of a problem with RMClock and AMD processors, or AMD processors and Windows XP, than anything to do with RMClock itself.
