Forum, you have been great so far in helping me to get the most out of my Acer 1410. I've been stalking for a while, and it is unfortunate that the first item I need to contribute is a problem.

I am looking to rotate my external monitor 90 degrees. I have tried three Intel drivers and have had no luck so far.

I run Windows7 64-bit. I have installed the Windows Update version of the graphics driver, the v15.15.5.64.1883 and the version from mid-June that you get if you install Intel's no-brainer utility from the website (sorry I didn't write down the version).

The more recent versions (not the no-brainer from Intel's website) had the options to rotate monitors in Intel's "graphics properties" driver access program. However, when I select the orientation I wish the monitor to reside and press apply, the monitor flickers and the box mentions that "display properties have changed... OK or Cancel," even though the orientation has not actually changed. The monitor will not adjust to another orientation no matter which orientation I try to set.

I also attempted installing iRotate, having had good results with it in the past on other OSs, with no luck here. I must mention that other methods of trying to change the orientation also haven't worked, including hotkeys and right-click-follow-the-menus.

Is this a bug with 64-bit that I can only solve by reverting back to 32-bit? I haven't received confirmation that 32-bit works, but I know there is a larger wealth of drivers.

Are there other driver suggestions? The ones I have installed from Intel remove the option for screen rotation in the OS properties dialog, so there is no work around as I see it.

Thanks so much for your knowledge in the past. I'm sure someone will astound me with information yet once again.

    Kyle

PS. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to not get shocked by the laptop? The exposed screws on the bottom are like a juiced 9-volt battery (although likely 5v, hehe) on fingers.

 Try an other wall outlet. This shouldn't happen. It indicates that the ground wire of the outlet is broken.
