Alright Catalyst 6.10's are out! I hope that these will fix the WMV corruption I have and not break resuming from standby. I will be installing them later tonight. Just a heads up to those of us (or maybe just mr.boliao) with problems to try these out and see if everything works :)

Use the direct link to download. The desktop ones won't work. Check the Gaming (Graphics and Software) section of the forums. It's a sticky there.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm not going to update yet. I'm playing some NFSCarbon on my desktop. And southpark n drwn together come on tonight. If anyone has company of heroes, can you tell me if it works right or not. It BSOD on me on the ATI 6.9's. I may install sometime this week (if my brother lets me ) Good luck :)

Well the Cat 6.10's seemed to have fixed the resume from standby issue BUT it's managed to completely break WMV hardware acceleration support. Instead of corruption, I get two frames repeatedly jittered with each other. Fun...

I hope they optimize NFS Carbon. The 6.10's smoothed out the gameplay on the demo compared to the 6.7's I had been running. Still, car reflections lag and update like once every half a second.

It has not BSOD on me btw :)

That sucks for the wmv hardware. I wonder if there a decoder you can reinstall.

As for the NFSCarbon Reflactions. Thats the DEMO. The full version has adjustable reflections update.

Ohh and P.S. dont buy NFSCarbon for the Multiplayer because it sucks. Hopefully they'll improve it with some patching. As for single player, its pretty fun. If you had slow framerate issues in the demo, you may have to lower the settings just a tad more for the real game. The reason why is because the in city races have more polygons and junk :)

Have you played any other games with the 6.10 catalyst? Particularly Company of Heroes?

Thanks for the info, Happy Gaming :)

No, if you're on the Acer TM8204WLMi, you need to downgrade your BIOS back to v3311. Any version beyond that have grainy issues becaues of the new VBIOS.

I installed the Catalyst 6.10 drivers on my 5672, the game would start, but when I clicked on the tutorial it would black screen and lock up the laptop. I went back to 6.07.

    OK here we are...

Benchmark scores for my Acer 5672 with ATI x1600 (128mb/512 hypermem)
    **ATI Mobile Catalyst 6.10

Company of Heroes (did not crash "yet" :) woot )

    Performance on custom settings:

    Average FPS 21.7
    MAX FPS 65.0
    MIN FPS 10.3

    CUSTOM settings
    1024*768

    Shader High
    Model High
    Antialiasing Disabled
    Textures Medium
    Shadows Low
    Reflections Low
    Post processing ON
    Building Detail High
    Physics Medium
    Tree Quality Medium
    Terrain Detail Medium
    Effects Fidelity High
    Effects density Medium
    Object Scarring On
Model Detail slider (slightly bellow default middle)

Tutorial level and a skermish map did not lock up. (alright :)

BillA you may have to do a reinstall of the drivers if you had the black screen problem.(If you were talking about COHeroes). Now I had the black screen hard-lock problems in that game with the ATI mobility 6.9's so who knows :)

    Now to the sythetic Benchmarks:

    3DMark03: 4798

    3DMark05: 2853

I'll post if any other games that are played crash or not, but so far, it good!

*obviously these auto setting are for a desktop version of the x1600 (with high ram frequency and 128-bit

memory bus). After setting some stuff to med and high (shadows and reflection on low), and no AF and AA. I

    get playable framrates.

For a while I was trying to install the desktop ones on my TM8202 w/ the X1600... and that's why everything got muffed. Then someone showed me the link to the Mobile Catalyst page (link on the first page of this thread)... and wahoo! Need For Speed Carbon doesn't crash and give me a blue screen of death when I start.

Im glad to see it worked for you cookies. Need for speed carbon works awesome on 1024*768. All details on max, except world detail on high and blur off. It did exit to windows on one occation. Thats not the laptop's fault because it did that on my desktop system with a Nvidia card.
By the way ATI rock for this game compared to Nvidia. Much smoother on ATI. You can tell this game was highly optimized for the Xbox360, which uses ATI graphics.

Hello, this is my first post in this forum and I must say that you were very helpful for me in the past months.

Now I have a question and would be very thankful if you answer. I have Acer 5672WLMi, X1600 with Acer Ati 8.231 drivers. Gman4u2, can you please tell me did you experience some improvement in CoH gameplay since I can see that benchmark is better with old driver than with the new one? Even with old drivers CoH is displayed quite well on my machine (only loading takes forever) so I wonder...

My brother is the one who plays that game not me. From the original Acer drivers vs. the new catalyst 6.10 and using the settings above, we both noticed framerates did not increase that much (but they did alittle). The main thing we saw increase in smoothness. Lag has decreased a bunch and so far no crashing (unlike the 6.9). Everything else is running well. I reccomend them.

Just a side note I uninstalled the Acer drivers using the ATI uninstall utility in the ADD/REMOVE programs section, then Rebooted. When windows loaded up I waited for the stupid windows auto install utility, cancelled that crap and installed Mobilty 6.10 without a hitch.

Another thing I would recommend (unless you use it) is go into the ati Catalyst Control Center and uncheck the show ATI taskbar icon in the preferences tab. Just more memory being used and another cli.exe in the tasks.

Try'em out, you "should" only see improvements in COH.

Ohh, yeah dont forget to create a System restore point just incase it doesnt do it automatically. I'm glad I did with the 6.9 drivers.
    Good Luck.

Mathematics...I guess it depends on what games you play with your laptop. Also what laptop do you have? I DONT recommend these drivers if you have the Acer Travelmate 8204 (or 8402 cant remember) and the Ferrari with the ATI X1150 graphics card. If you dont play any new games and your happy with the performance on your current games, don't upgrade.
Now if you play newer games (such as NFSCarbon or Company of Heroes), then I recommend trying to upgrade.
Just remember to create a system restore point if your unhappy with the upgrade.
    Later :)

I have recently heard news from some good peeps at another forum on the 6.10 drivers. If you still play Unreal Tournament 2004, you may want to pass up these drivers. It seems to be creating some error messeges.

Has anybody else noticed this, or have the game to try. If your not having problems with this game and these drivers, let me know what laptop your using and the ATI card it has. Thanks alot. :)

Unless you're unsatsified with your gaming performance, or a specific game doesn't seem like it is performing up to par, then don't upgrade drivers. It might break something that works now :) Heck, even nVidia's driver pages say that, "If it's not broken, don't fix it." I upgraded because I wanted CoH to work :D

Gman4u2, why don't you recommend the Cat 6.10's to owners of TM8204's? I'm just curious because I have one and the Cat's work fine (or as fine as they ever will.....)

Glad to see they work with your laptop Zoomastigophora. I was actually going by someone's post. Aparenty when he upgraded, he was getting alot of BSOD. He may of just had a corrupt download, installed wrong, something. Funny how computers are, even the same models. I guess you have to factor in the user as well. Sorry for the minor misinformation.
Its good to see you play CoH too. You probably saw improved smoothness or in your case its started working :)

I just posted the new 6.11 Thread. I wont be upgrading just yet. The 6.10 are sitting quite nice right now.

I read the release notes for the 6.11 and unless you play those games, there is no reason to upgrade for me. It doesn't seem they fixed the Unreal tournament 2004 problem either, so I would "advise" not upgrading to those either if you play that game. But...huh...who knows... it might.
    Later fellow gamers.

I would probably uninstall the drivers, use a driver cleaner, then try to reinstall the 6.10 or maybe even the 6.11 drivers. So far NFSCarbon on my Acer 5672 x1600 has worked great.

Now after a while of playing is sometimes crashes to the desktop every now and then, but that happens on my desktop nvidia system a well. That is most likely a game problem.

If that doesn't work, I would try reinstalling the game. That might work. Your save game files should be in you My Documents folder if you want to back them up.

    Good luck.
